Chapter 6-
Waking up this morning, I was still in a bad mood. The memory of what had happened yesterday popped into my head. It didn't help that Carter had tried to call me, at six in the morning mind you, or that my period was right around the corner. I was PMSing like hell, so today, evertyhing was just a mess.
What did help though, was that today was my birthday. My mom woke me up with a tray of cold pancakes and OJ in her hands, while singing 'Happy Birthday' to me. I smiled widely as I sat up against the headboard to recieve the tray of heaven. She kissed the top of my head and sat down at the end of the bed.
"Happy birthday baby, finally 18!" She giggled, clapping her hands. I rolled my eyes playfully at her while shoving a pancake into my mouth. I heard my phone buzzing beside me so I picked it up to see who was calling.
"The birthday wishes are already flooding in," mom giggled again. "You're popular, honey." I put my phone down and hid my scowl, not answering it.
"Who was that honey? You should answer" mom ushered. I shook my head at her. "It's just Carter" I said bluntly.
"Did the two of you get in a fight?" she asked with a concerned look on her face.
"Sort of, it's nothing. Don't worry" I gave her a smile and shoved another pancake into my mouth. "Okay then, honey. So, do you want your present now or later?" she wondered, looking smug.
"Now, now, now!" I ushered. She laughed at me. "I thought you were turning 18, not three." I rolled my eyes at that.
"Since you already have a car, enough money for college and all that, I had a hard time figuring out what to give you. It's your 18th birthday as well, so I couldn't just give you a book you know," she explained, picking up what looked like an envelope from her back pocket. "I remember you talking about wanting a vacation before you go off to college, so I'm hoping you like it" she laughed nervously, handing me the envelope. I swallowed the last piece of pancake in my mouth and took the envelope, excited about what was in it.
I opened it, glancing up at my mom as I did so and saw the excited look on her face. I look out the piece of paper in the envelope and opened it.
The smile on my face widened as I saw what it was.
A trip for two to Hawaii in August.
I smiled from ear to ear, moved the tray out of the way and attacked my mom with a hug.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you sooo much mom!" I hugged her hard as I heard her laugh as she said "you're welcome"
"You better get ready for school, I'll drive you today" she smiled. I got up and ran into my bathroom to have a shower. I spent about ten minutes in the shower before stepping out to dry myself and blow dry my hair. When I did that, I went to my closet to find something decent to wear. I wouldn't normally make an effort to look good, but it's my birthday.
I pulled out a pair of black high-waisted jeans and a burgundy red knitted sweater. I braided my long, blonde hair into a side-braid and put on some makeup. I sprayed on a little bit of my favorite perfume, Daisy Dream by Marc Jacobs. I ran downstairs after putting on my white converse, and saw my mom standing there with her phone in her hand, waiting for me.
