You step back into the conference room, with Stolas' teleportation book in your hand.
"Alright guys, I'm ready." you say, handing the book to Blitzo.
He takes the book from your grasp, saying "Aww... (Y/N)'s first mission. I wish disposable cameras were still a thing, 'cause I'd so take a picture right now!"
He opens up the book to a seemingly random page in the middle of it, and an orange-colored portal suddenly pops up on the wall in front of you.
"Alright, we'll see you in a bit, newbie!" he says, giving you a handshake. Moxxie and Millie do the same, both wishing you good luck.
Loona walks up to you, appearing pensive, as if she's unsure of what to say.
You reach a hand out to her, expecting her to shake it like everyone else did.
Instead, she wraps her arms over and around your shoulders, giving you a warm embrace. You confusedly hug her back, not expecting her to be so openly affectionate toward you.
"Just... make it back in one piece... please." she whispers.
"It's okay, Loona, I'll be fine!" you assure her, gently patting her back. "You don't need to worry about me."
She suddenly breaks off the embrace, and gives you a flustered look of frustration. "I-I'm not worried! I just... don't wanna buy new Help Wanted signs again! We threw out the old ones we had, and they're expensive."
You chuckle, saying "I'll be fine, Loonie."
Under normal circumstances, you don't think you would've been able to call her that and live to tell about it.
But, after making sure no one in the room was paying attention to her, she smiles back at you, appearing much more relieved.
"Just... give me a call when you're ready for us to pick you up." she says.
"You got it." you reply, before turning back to face the portal on the wall.
"Guess I'm going home again..." you say, before stepping through the portal.
As you step inside, you can hear Blitzo ask someone "You like him, don't you?"
——————————————————
The portal swiftly disappears as you step out the other side of it.
And just like that, you're home again.
You take a moment to look around at your surroundings. You're in the middle of downtown Mobile, Alabama, and while you never grew up around here, things still feel strangely familiar to you.
To your knowledge, you were the only human down in Hell, so already you feel more "at home" here on Earth.
Maybe one day, you'll use that teleportation book Blitzo has to see your family again. That would be kind of cool, you think.
Although, you don't exactly know what you'd say to them. "Hey guys! I know I'm supposed to be dead right now, and technically I still am, but... here I am!"
It would definitely be one Hell of a thing to explain to them.
That'll be something you'll have to do later, though. You're on a mission right now, after all.
You had to have been close to that bar the target was known to frequently stop by. Millie said it was called the "Lucky Leprechaun".
You can easily tell that it's night time right now, but you can't be certain of the exact time. Your watch and phone are both set to Hell Standard Time, so it could be 4 A.M. here, for all you know.
