Arguments and Leaving

[This is set after the show's ending. As of now, Lin and Kya have been dating for a year.]

Kya sighed as she looked up at the clock it read 2:30am; Lin was once again late coming home. Taking a deep breath, she looked to the right out the window; from her position on the couch, it seemed that lately, they were growing more distant from each other. They would get into fights more easily; things were tense around them, always; it didn't feel the same.
Hearing the click of the doorknob, she lifted her head in the direction of the door.
As Lin opened the door as quietly as possible in the case, Kya had already fallen asleep. She had been backed up, at work with a mountain of paperwork and a close deadline. Dropping the keys onto the table near the door, Lifting her gaze to the couch, "shit." She mumbled under her breath.

Standing from the couch, "Your home late." Kya stated as she crossed her arms.

"I know, we got backed up at work things have been hectic at the station." Lin tried giving reasons as to her late arrival while she began taking off her armor.

"You've been so busy for the past two weeks." Kya said as she walked closer to Lin, "That by the time you arrive home, your too tired to do anything?" she finished, her voice no longer calm.

Lin rubbed her eyes; she was tired and irritated; it was far too late to deal with this. "Kya, I'm too tired for this at the moment; can we please deal with this in the morning."

Looking defeated, Kya simply noded what was the point of talking when the other was half asleep.

"You said we would talk about it in the morning," Kya said, her voice began raising by the second as she sat up on the bed. Pointing to the window next to the room, "And would you look at that sun is up meaning that it's morning Lin,"

Lin couldn't help but frown as she was rushing to put on her armor. "I know, but we woke up late, and I have to get to work," Lin replied as she finished putting on her armor.

Looking down at her hands, she couldn't stop what came out next, "Maybe this isn't working anymore." biting her lip as the room filled with silence.

"Kya, what are you talking about?"Lin asked he voice laced with concern.

"Nothing," Kya returned as she looked up, smiling at Lin,
"Just a stupid thought that crossed my mind for a second."

Looking at the clock, she knew she needed to go now. Giving her girlfriend a look of confusion mixed with sympathy, "I'll get home early and well talk about it okay." she said.

Once the thought popped into her mind, she couldn't ignore it; everything had just become overwhelming. Grabbing her bags from under the bed, she began stuffing them with clothing. She knew it was irrational to run away when things got hard, but she couldn't stop herself. She needed to go maybe to the south pole with her mom, or she could visit Izumi in the fire nation.
Kya knew she had to get away; perhaps she was right about Lin, maybe they just weren't meant to be. With her mind clouded with a hundred thoughts, she grabbed her bags and left the apartment.

Entering the apartment, she had managed to get off work early; the thoughts of what Kya said that morning hadn't left her mind all day. Noticing Kya wasn't in the kitchen or the living she walked through the narrow hallway to their room only to find it empty. With the bed still unmade and some drawers opened from the dresser along with the closet door. Moving over to close them, she noticed both the drawers were empty, along with the side of Kyas closet. Letting the realization dawn on her, she looked under the bed, Kya's bags were missing as well. Getting up from the floor, she began looking frantically for a note or anything, but she never found anything.

After Kya left, Lin began picking up the pieces around her, trying her best not to jump into her work as a distraction. She had made that mistake when she and Tenzin had broken up all those years ago. Instead, taking a different approach by beginning to set boundaries for herself, making sure not to stay at work after hours unless it was unavoidable. She had taken the small amount of clothing that Kya had forgotten and placed it in a box in her closet. After a couple of months, Lin began accepting that she was gone.
