The Howling

Two days later Sully was healed up and back to his ornery self again. Slasher and Kacie were finally getting along and acting like how a family should around each other. The evil of Zera and her lost pack was slowly diminishing away and the fear we all once shared was disappearing with her. Klayton was spending more alone time with his mate as of late, instead of portraying our defiant leader, but it was alright because Kacie & I were filling the position quite nicely. Even though all I was doing lately was roughhousing and picking fun rumbles with my pack brothers. But the funniest part was when none of them could singlehandedly whoop my ass, so they all jumped me at the same time, I had to admit they managed to put me on my ass that time.

Mom and dad was enjoying the afternoon sitting in the swing watching me scuffling with them all like I used to do with JD and Costa when we were kids. It warmed their hearts seeing it. In the end of the brotherly scuffle, Sully was surprisingly the one on top, Sandy gave him a victory kiss and told all of us that we did good. Klayton slowly emerged from the house and into the sunlight with his Mohawk reflecting the Suns bright rays, and asked us all what n the hell we were doing out here making all that noise. I jumped up off the ground and told him he missed out on the brotherly love yet again. Klayton quickly put me into a headlock and said it was alright because he gave way too much love to his brothers as it was.

I slipped out of his grip as I told him he just didn't want to ruin his reputation by rolling around on the ground getting his ass kicked by his brothers. Klayton sat down on the step and lit a cigarette, as he said he'd leave the dirt rolling to his younger, demented n crazy-ass brother, while he chilled on the steps and watched. I chuckled at his lazy wisdom n told him he was an asswipe. Klayton gave a wicked grin n said there were 3 types of people...there was the type like mom and dad that watched things happen, then there were types like him that made things happen, then there were types like me, & always wondered what happened. After Klayton finished his spill, he managed to get everyone laughing at his joke. But I just didn't find him funny at all. I was just about to say something very clever, when we all heard and seen Slasher and Brutus running to the house while hollering at us to get ready for the war was on its way!

I ran down the road where they had just come from, and once I made it to the outskirts of town sure enough there was a huge swarm of wolves slowly making their way right toward us, and they were ready for war. Oddly enough tho out of 50 wolves Zera was no where to be seen, she was the cowardly type of alpha that lurked in the shadows as her pack did all the fighting and dying for her. I did a quick count again before I headed back home to speak with Klayton about fighting maneuvers, and making sure our family stuck together in groups of two or three, and never to separate, for they would surely pick us off one by one if we did try fighting singlehandedly.

Our formation was all the head fighters in the front row, followed by the females in the second row, with our elderly members in the back, with two of us warriors taking up the rear just in case of any sneak attacks. Slash, Brutus, and Sully volunteered to take the rear for Slash had a gut feeling that's where Zera and Morgra would be coming in from, for they were good at sneaky back attacks. Hours went by, but we still remained at the ready, just to be sure they couldn't jump us by surprise. We all were fed up and well-rested enough to give them a real run for their money if the fight ever did commence, but we kept waiting, and still, nothing came. Klayton told everyone to stand their ground as he slowly moved up the hill to look on the other side of the hill, no sooner than he reached the peak of the hill, two wolves jumped him and they were trying very hard to kill him.

I lunged to defend him, as I hollered out attack for all our family to know the war has begun. We all went thru the arrangements on how to keep our formation in battle and they were doing exceptionally well at following those orders always attacking in groups of two or three instead of trying to fight one on one. The Lost Pack were like wild animals with no direction or trained way of attacking, they just attacked blindly without knowing or caring if they could win or not...that when I realized they had no real leadership or war skills, they depended all on numbers and brute force. I raced over to Klayton and told him, then he called all of our pack to us to regroup, that we were winning this war, then before we sent them out for the final round of fighting we told them all the Lost Pack's weakness and to keep teaming up and fighting with their intellect instead of their mere brute force.

Meanwhile back behind us all in the distance was Morgra and Zera waiting for their moment to attack from behind while we were all keeping busy with the others from the front...but they had a huge surprise coming to them when they did try that little sneak approach. Slasher, Sully, and Brutus were well rested up not doing any fighting just standing in the back looking in Morgra's and Zera's direction, but just hidden out of their sights waiting for them to make their move, so they could surprise attack them instead of the other way around.
