"Mesi Adede, wake up!".
Uh-oh, she only uses my last name when she is angry.
"Family meeting NOW!"
Another bad thing was family meetings. Either someone died, or someone killed some person. Well, maybe I am being a little too dramatic, but still. Usually, something bad's about to happen when there's a family meeting. I run down the stairs and look at the clock. 9 O'clock, darn, I missed the best surfing hour.
My brother is already standing next to my mom, and my sister is trailing after me with a blanket. "What?" I ask kind of annoyed.
"Your father is coming here in three days" she barely whispers. "Ya!!!" we all shout, but my mom shushes us. "I am not having that...that person in our house. Her voice sounds gruff. "He thinks he is staying here, with all of us, but I am going on a trip, you will be here alone with...with your father.
Wow. That was not what I had suspected. I thought that my mom would have gotten over the "fight" with my dad, but I guess not. Anyways, no time for grumbling, we have our chores to do.
After breakfast and chores, we all helped mama pack. She was going to stay at a friend's house until she heard that my father was gone. I was confused about why she hated my father so much, but her loss. I went to my room and looked at an old family picture. I was about nine in the picture. I have a big goofy smile, and my mom and dad are holding Azizi and Tiombe. I remember how happy our family used to be, and how different we all looked. From my dad's white skin to my mom's dark skin, people might not think we even live together. Well...now we don't.
I have found that when you are annoyed, the best thing to do is go surfing. I grab my surfboard and run down to the beach. The waves are calm, and the beach is crowded. I run into the water, with my purple bikini on. I go between the two surfing flags and dive into the water, my surfboard close behind.
The water instantly feels good, and I forget about all the troubles and take a wave. I am at the top, then I slowly surf till the bottom of the wave, and then instantly wipe out. I get back up and go all over again. The water still feels good under my skin.
When I get out, the sand is nice and warm. I towel off and then run back to my house, where Tiombe is there greeting me.
"Azizi's hurt," she says "apparently he fell out of the apple tree at his friend's house.
I sigh "thanks" to my sister, and run upstairs, to see how Azizi is doing. He has a cut on his knee, but other than that, he looks okay.
"Is jy OK?" "ja", "ons sal volgende keer versigtiger wees. Ek het jou lief."
I speak in African for a second, before he answers back "I love you too" and then I go into my room. I am excited about my dad coming over, but also a little worried because my mom will not be here. I just hope everything works out great.
