The truth

Today is the day that my dad is coming, and my mom is leaving. I am super scared, because I have not seen my dad for seven months, and my mom will not be there. She said I could call her every day, but still, I'm excited, but also a little worried.

"Bye, mom!" Tiombe screams. "I love you so darn much!".

"I love you to Ti-Ti. I will miss you so much!".

My mom gives all of us kisses, and hugs, and then she gets into her car and drives away.

Supposedly my dad is coming at four-thirty, so we have all afternoon to ourselves. While my brother and little sister watch some shows on the T.V, I call my best friend Olivia.

"Hey, Mesi". She says into the phone, "can I come over and give you guys some eggs?". "Sure," I say, happy to see my friend and get my worries out of my mind. Two minutes later, she comes sprinting in, without ever knocking (that's how close we are) and up into my room. "I put the eggs in the refrigerator," she says still panting. "Great," I say, and smile at her.

Olivia has blond hair, medium length. She usually wears it down, but today she has it in a cute ponytail. She is wearing ripped, blue jeans, and a white tank top that says, a warrior in black writing. She has no shoes on, and her feet are super tan. She tells me that she has to go, and do chores. I give her a quick wave goodbye, and then sit daydreaming for about an hour.

Finally, I walk downstairs and see my sister and brother making cookies from a mix. "What the heck are you doing"?! I ask. There are cookie crumbs everywhere, and their hands are full of dow. "Now I have to clean up before dad comes, you happy?" I say frustrated. I send them back to the T.V, and I start to clean up.

I finally finished making the kitchen spotless and changed my clothes. My dad was coming over in thirty minutes, and I was getting a little worried. I told Tiombe, and Azizi to go change their clothes also. They each put on cute looking outfits, which I hoped satisfied my dad.

"Papa's coming in ten minutes," I tell them. "You guys ready?". I can tell that they are also nervous, but I tell them that everything will be fine.

"Ma is altyd by ons, al is sy nie hier nie."

I grumble encouraging words, even though I feel like I am going to puke. We all run to a window and wait for a yellow Toyota to pull up. Suddenly, a fancy-looking car pulls into our driveway. Outcomes my dad, with a woman, and a girl and a boy. I start to puke when I realize the truth.

"Pa het 'n vrou en twee kinders"

I tell them that papa must have got a wife and two kids. I know now what mama meant when she said she did not want papa in the house. Anything could happen, and it did. My father went and found him a different family.

I hear the doorbell ring, and I know I have no choice, but to open it.
