Kat woke up, chained to a chair, having been captured by an old enemy. She'd thought that she was the only one to be captured, but then she saw Damon chained to a chair, too. That's when she assumed what he was going to do. He wasn't her enemy though, so she wasn't quite sure. She didn't even know who he was. That was saying something, considering she'd watched the Salvatores over the years to make sure they stayed safe. She could feel blood on either side of her head, so she assumed she probably had a concussion. She wasn't exactly a doctor, but she was a desk clerk at a clinic, so she'd learned things from overhearing doctors and nurses. After being a vampire for so long, it wasn't like she could follow the path she was supposed to when her mother had still been alive. She was supposed to follow her mother's path of being a sort of nurse, but she hadn't. Now, the world had changed, and she couldn't do much without doing one of the few things she hated. School. Like Damon, she'd never been a fan of school, but unlike him, she'd gone to school in her day. She'd wanted to be a better person than her father ever would be. She'd wanted to be free from her father. Sometimes, she'd even wished that he'd get what he deserved. In the end, he did. Klaus gave him what he deserved by killing him for her.
"What are you going to do?" Kat inquired of Azazel.
'"Well, I thought I'd start with you. Then him. You see, I watched for a while. I know the connection between the two of you. Even if you're not together anymore, you two will always have each other's backs. Damon took something valuable from me a long time ago, so I'm going to do the same to him. Now, you two can watch each other, lose one another. He's going to know the same pain I've dealt with."
"Look, whoever you are, I assure you, he's already lived through the pain. He's already had his heart broken more than once. No one, not even Damon, can take back the past. I'm sorry for whatever happened that made you lose someone, but you can let go of the past. Just move on. I started over. You can, too. You're a vampire. You can do whatever you want, but yet you choose revenge? Even if you get it, it's not going to satisfy you. I've gotten my vengeance on people before. At first, it feels great, but then you realize what you've done. When that happens, you regret what you did. Then you're even deeper into the darkness."
"The name's Azazel, but most know me as Azazel the Bloody. And you know? It'll be worth it," he replied to her, telling her those last two parts, as he bent over in front of her, hands on the chair arms where her arms were chained to.
When he told her who he was, she finally knew what he looked like. As a vampire on the run, she'd heard the stories, but hadn't believed that a simple vampire could be capable of worse than herself. She knew, looking at him now though, that she'd been wrong. He was almost like the monster Klaus could be. The only difference was that Klaus was a hybrid. His anger stemmed from the werewolf half of himself, combined with his parent issues. Azazel's need for vengeance stemmed from whatever Damon had done. She assumed how he'd spoke though, that Damon had killed someone he cared about. Probably when his humanity was off. After all, the Damon she'd known wouldn't do something like that. Not in the past when he'd had it turned on. However, she knew how ruthless he'd been with it turned off. She knew what he'd tried to do all those years ago to Stefan's best friend, Lexi, when she'd tried to get him to turn his emotions back on for Stefan's sake.
After a moment, and once he knew that she knew who exactly he was, he stabbed a dagger into her, leaving it there.
"We'll see how long it takes for him to wake up and at least try to save you. That is, if he still has the heart. If not, oh well. There is one thing I need, though. You see, most people in this town are filled with vervain, it seems. That gives me a problem," he replied and hinted to her.
He vamped out, but despite him being an enemy, she told him, "You don't want to do that. I don't know if there are any side effects. The only reason I'm human again is because of a cure for vampirism. I don't know what will happen if a vampire drinks from me, much less anything else. I wouldn't risk it if I were you. The cure is still inside of me."
