This time, Taehyung noticeably tensed. “What did you tell him, exactly?”
And maybe it wasn’t the time to tell Taehyung. Maybe it was selfish. Maybe Hoseok should just go and pretend that everything that had happened between the two of them had solely been sexual, and that Taehyung and Yeontan and this farm and this town had somehow made room in Hoseok’s heart.
Hoseok knew he had to go back to his job eventually. He knew that he did.
He still wanted Taehyung to know, though. He still wanted to be honest to Taehyung, in some capacity, because that was what Taehyung deserved. Especially with how earnestly Taehyung was looking at him, biting his lip, almost nervous.
But he didn’t want to be too honest. So he said the truth, even if it wasn’t everything, because he wasn’t sure if Taehyung could handle that.
“Just that we’re, you know, sleeping together. And, um, all of that.”
Hoseok could feel his face bursting into flames.
“Oh,” Taehyung said, and there was almost something dejected there. “Is that all?”
“Yeah-” Hoseok began, even though he knew that he had made a mistake somehow, and he wanted to fix it.
But before he could, Taehyung leaned down again. “Well, that’s true,” he said against Hoseok’s mouth, and kissed him again.
It wasn’t a soft, sweet peck like before. This time it was long and lingering, Taehyung pressing further into Hoseok’s body to trap him against the kitchen counter. Hoseok opened his mouth a little once Taehyung turned away to breathe, but Taehyung didn’t let him for long. Instead he pressed their mouths together and licked his way into Hoseok’s mouth until Hoseok was holding onto him, fingers clenching into Taehyung’s shirt.
Hoseok could have kissed him like that forever, and maybe he would have, if a burning smell hadn’t started wafting from the stove.
“Our lunch!” Hoseok exclaimed, pushing Taehyung away to move the pot to a cool burner before it completely overflowed.
And Taehyung just laughed, even when Hoseok scolded him all during their (mostly singed) lunch.
--------
Yeontan was more comfortable with Hoseok now than he had been before, and Hoseok took full advantage of that now, laying naked on Taehyung’s bed as he listened to Taehyung take his own shower.
It wasn't exactly that Yeontan had ever been uncomfortable or aggressive around him, because he hadn't. It was just that usually he wanted to be wherever Taehyung was, which was understandable because that was his dad, and Hoseok was just a visitor.
But as the weeks progressed, Yeontan became more and more comfortable with Hoseok, and even took to following him around now too even when Taehyung was in the same general vicinity.
Hoseok’s heart dissolved into a pile of goo every time it happened. He couldn't help it; he was only human.
And so Yeontan was now totally comfortable laying in the bed with Hoseok, and Hoseok took full advantage of it.
“You're the cutest dog in the whole wide world, aren't you Tannie, aren't you? The best in the whole wide world too.” Hoseok paused, though he didn't stop rubbing Yeontan’s stomach just like he liked it, right in the spot that made Yeontan’s leg twitch. “Well, other than Mickey, but since he's not here right now we just won't tell him. Yeah, you won't tell him, right? Because you're the best dog ever. Ever. Ever.”
Hoseok leaned down to kiss Yeontan’s little head, reveling in the softness of his fur, and the smell of his shampoo, since he and Taehyung had given Yeontan a bath just that afternoon. Yeontan was so soft and warm and cute, Hoseok wanted to cuddle with him forever and ever.
