“I’m going to miss your house, and I’m going to miss your friends, and I’m going to miss Yeontan, but...I’ll miss you most of all.” Hoseok looked up at the ceiling, and tried not to let his emotion make his face crumble. He wasn’t sure if he could look at Taehyung for all of this. “And...and I’m sorry that I, that I mean, that my fans, that by being here I-”

Taehyung sat up on his forearm, looking alarmed.

“Hey, hey, hey,” he said, reaching out to touch Hoseok, as if trying to calm him. And maybe in a way it did, or at least, it calmed the way his heart felt like it was vibrating out of his chest. “You didn’t do anything, okay? You didn’t do anything. And I’m going to miss you too. I’ll miss you in my house, and I’ll miss you hanging out with my friends, and I’ll miss seeing you with Yeontan, but. I’ll miss you most of all, hyung. I’m going to miss you so, so, so much. It killed me to leave you at the restaurant, and it’s going to kill me when you leave, but we’re going to be okay, right? We’ll be okay?”

“We’re going to be okay,” Hoseok promised him, because hearing Taehyung saying all that made something crack open inside of him. He leaned over and kissed Hoseok again.

Taehyung took Hoseok face to face, as close as he could possibly get. The angle wasn’t great, and every thrust was shallow, but it felt good regardless. And it wasn’t about getting off as quickly as possible anyway--it was about being close to each other.

And they were close to each other, as close as they could be. Taehyung grunted into Hoseok’s neck when he came, and Hoseok held him close until he did the same, not letting Taehyung get too far away from him.

Afterwards, when they had to get up and they got up together. Hoseok’s legs almost buckled, but Taehyung managed to catch him before he fell to the ground.

“We can call every day,” Hoseok said finally, once they were in the shower together. It was a tight fit, but with a lot of maneuvering and practice, they had managed to make it work. Now they both fit in there as if none of this navigation had ever happened in the first place.

Hoseok liked to think that the rest of their relationship was like that too--or at least, that it could be, while they went through the new waters of the coming weeks together.

“We can,” Taehyung agreed. “And I’ll get even better internet, so we can video call each other too. And I’m not a very good texter, but I’ll try to become one, for you. I’m really, really willing to try, hyung. I want to.”

And Hoseok believed him.

Neither of them slept for the rest of the night. Instead they sat in Taehyung’s bed, and they talked. They talked about things that they hadn’t really talked about before--what Hoseok’s schedules were like, what it was like when he was filming, about how busy things got when it was comeback or award season. They talked about how often they’d be able to visit each other, or see each other at all, and what a good schedule to talk to each other would be during the week versus what it would be like when it was Taehyung’s busy season when he stayed in the fields for days at a time during the summer.

Eventually Yeontan found his way into Taehyung’s bed, and he sat in Hoseok’s lap while Hoseok pet him.

When the sun began coming over the horizon, announcing that it was morning, Hoseok was exhausted but he was ready. At the very least, he and Taehyung were going to try. Hoseok had never had that before, and he cherished it.

“Do you want me to make you anything for the road?” Taehyung asked while watching Hoseok pack up all of his things. Hoseok had packed so many clothes, and he hadn’t realized how they had somehow gotten mixed into Taehyung’s house until he had to gather all of them up. Packing was taking much longer than he thought it would, but that was fine since Yoongi was having to pack up and drive out here anyway.

“No, we’ll be fine. I don’t think I could eat anyway.” Hoseok tried to smile, and thought it was pretty convincing, but Taehyung didn’t seem any less worried after Hoseok bestowed it on him so maybe it didn’t work that well after all.

“And Yoongi hyung will send someone out here for your car in a few days?”

“Yes. It’s just better to do that in case someone recognises it.”

Taehyung hovered over Hoseok, wringing his hands, like it was killing him not to be doing anything.

“Will you go put my packed bags over by the front door?” Hoseok asked, just to give him something to do. “And then, hot chocolate? So we can watch the sunrise together one more time?”

“Okay,” Taehyung said, obviously relieved to be given instruction while Hoseok was so busy.

Instead of drinking on the back porch like usual, Taehyung and Hoseok held their mugs in the front yard as they waited for Yoongi to come up the front drive.

Their breaths were visible in puffs of smoke as they stood there.

“The view isn’t as pretty out here,” Taehyung said, and Hoseok laughed. He bent down to pet Yeontan, who was hanging around their ankles instead of playing out in the yard like he knew Hoseok was going to be leaving.

“Yeah, but I’m still seeing it with the cutest farmer I’d ever met,” Hoseok said, and this time Taehyung was the one who laughed.

And it was almost like nothing had changed, they were holding it together that well, until Yoongi’s car began making the drive up.

Hoseok kissed Taehyung when Yoongi came up the walkway to get Hoseok’s bags, because he refused to say goodbye. He could still taste the farewell in Taehyung’s mouth when he pulled away.

They smiled at each other, and Hoseok touched Taehyung’s face again. Then he bent down to give Yeontan a giant hug, the kind of hug that he wanted to give Taehyung and couldn’t because he didn’t want to start crying.

And that was it.

Hoseok got into Yoongi’s car, and it was like it always was with them. It would have been like Hoseok had never met Taehyung, if it hadn’t been for their surroundings and the giant hole in Hoseok’s chest.

“Are you okay?” Yoongi asked, once they turned onto the main road, the one that Hoseok’s car had gotten a flat tire on all those weeks ago. His voice was soft, and Hoseok couldn’t take that.

“I’m fine,” Hoseok said, and the water in his voice proved that it wasn’t true, but Yoongi didn’t argue. Instead they just watched the scenery pass by in silence.

-----------

When Hoseok got back into Seoul, he had a single message from Taehyung on his phone.

It was just a heart emoji, and a picture of Yeontan looking up at the camera, but in that moment it was almost enough.
