The next few days went by painfully slow. There was no other sign of the mysterious thing a the window. Nana had no barked at it or sniffed around it. Nothing.
It was a night when our parents went to a party and our aunt came over to watch us.
Our aunt had convinced our father to go to more parties to chat with his peers and make friends with his superiors so that I may marry their sons or grandsons.
I didn't want that to happen. I didn't want to grow up and be passed from one place to another. I wanted to write, adventure, explore the world and all its glory.
I didn't want to be stuck in a boring life with a husband I most likely don't get a choice of.
Later, we were all settling into bed and mother came into the room to light the nightlight. Once all the lights were lit, Nana came dashing in and crashed into our toys and bookshelves, knocking everything to the ground.
Father came running in shorty after and fell over some of the fallen books. Nana jumped up and tried to pick up some things but then father tripped over her as well. When he got up, he was angry.
He grabbed Nana's collar and chained her up outside in the snow. He then turned around and pointed a menacing finger at me.
"Tomorrow, you will move your hings out of the nursery and begin your instruction with your aunt." he said.
I felt tears welling up in my eyes and I pushed past everyone and ran to the nursery. I collapsed on my bed and curled up under my blankets, hiding myself from the world. Nobody touched me. Nobody bothered me.
I only knew I fell asleep because I woke up to some bumping and thumping around the room. I thought nothing of it until I heard quiet sniffling and muffled cries.
I crawled out form under my covers and looked around the room. I saw nothing but I still heard the crying. I quietly moved to the end o my bed and peeked over the side. There, I saw a sight I never thought I'd see.
A boy was crying on the floor. A few of the toys were flung around the room again. The basket of fake swords was tipped over and one of the swords was laying beside him. I realized that the sword he had was my sword.
"Hello." I said.
The boy then realized my existence and jumped up. He kept going up until he hit the ceiling with his head. Then continued to hide behind the chandelier.
"It's alright to come down. I won't hurt you." I said and smiled a small smile.
He seemed hesitant to be here but he eventually made his way back to the ground and bowed. I hopped off my bed and walked closer to him.
"Are you alright? You seem nervous. How did you get here?" I questioned. I was bursting with excitement. He could be my ticket out of growing up and becoming someone I don't want to be.
"You're Peter Pan aren't you? What're you doing here? What were you doing with my sword? How how lovely it is for you to be here!" I said excitedly and then I realized I was doing something most people hated about me.
"Oh, sorry. I'm rambling aren't I? Silly me. I forgot. I hush and let you talk now." I said.
I sat down the the edge of my bed in silence as I waited for him to possibly speak.
"Well," he started hesitantly then turned toward the window. "I came from the first star on the right and straight on till morning," and pointed at the window toward the sky.
"Oh my! That's quite exciting!" I said, jumping off the bed and to my feet.
He shifted from one foot to the other and looked around the room.
"There's no particular reason I'm here. I just came ecause this place seems familiar from a long time ago. No real reason, but I should probably get going," he said and started toward the window.
"No, you can't leave! I want to learn about Neverland! I want to know about your adventure!s Please, please stay and tell me about your adventures, and Neverland, and everything else," I begged even though it was unladylike.
I didn't care about how I was acting or how my aunt or mother or father would have reacted upon seeing me acting this way. I wanted to escape, to be free, to learn about all the fun things in Neverland. All the dangers, adventures.
I just want to know.
