Alduin turned around to see Miraxsil standing there, looking at the pair of them idly. She looked almost bored, in the way her eyes were half lidded. Alduin knew this was not the case.
"Come to rescue the Dragonborn? I see you care more for him than I thought." Alduin snarled.
"He is an excellent ally. Now, move, before I have to make you." The dragoness laughed, showing her teeth.
"You realise I won't let you leave this cave alive. Or, at least without some wounds. The Dragonborn has a choice, here. He can stand with you, and die in the process, or he can walk away, unharmed. There is a third choice, however. You are destined to slay the World-Eater, and I think you wouldn't mind some help with that." Miraxsil turned her head toward Fjord, and grinned.
Fjord was nervous. It had never crossed his mind that once Alduin is through with this, he might dispose of him. Miraxsil's offer was tempting, but she was not exactly the most trustworthy dragon out there.
"Fjord, you can't possibly be considering her offer. That is surely self-destruction. I advise you to run, even a Dovahkiin would not have a chance."
"Fine." Fjord dismounted Alduin, and began running out of the dimly lit cave. Before he left, he stuck his middle finger up at Miraxsil, and exited the cave.
"How rude." Miraxsil put a front forearm to her plated chest in mock offence.
"Now, Alduin, why don't you start this, since I'll be finishing it?" Alduin growled. This was about to get serious...
Paarthurnax reached the cave's entrance, and saw Fjord sprinting out of the cave mouth, frequently looking behind him. Inevitably, the mortal stumbled over a stone and fell. Paarthurnax swooped down, and landed with a loud thump next to the Dovahkiin. Fjord yelped, and stumbled away before he recognised the aged Dovah.
"Dovahkiin, are you being pursued? You are skittish, and look dishevelled."
"Alduin, he's in the cave with Miraxsil. They're fighting." Paarthurnax raised his snout to the sky, and shouted.
"Til, Paar! Fo Ah, Dinok!"
"We have to help them, Paarthurnax." Fjord drew his ebony sword, inlaid with golden engravings. He started walking towards the cave, hoping he wouldn't regret this. Paarthurnax stayed outside the cave however, he preferred to avoid conflict.
Foahdinok's head perked up. He and Tilpaar had been called, likely for battle. He wasn't nearly as happy as his friend was, Tilpaar was almost doing a mortal "victory dance."
"We've been called! Finally, some action around here!" With that, she somersaulted into the air, and began flying toward the source of the shout. Foahdinok huffed, and followed on her tail. I hope I don't have to pull Alduin out of any trouble...
Inside the cave, things were not going so well for Alduin. Blood dripped from numerous scratches on his body, and one of his back spikes had been broken off halfway. Miraxsil had a few small scratches on her neck, and an almost embarrassingly small bitemark on her tail.
"You give up yet, Alduin?"
"No." He shot a fireball onto one of Miraxsil's scratches, and she shrieked angrily, and grabbed Alduin's tail in her mouth, biting down. He took this moment of opportunity to grab her throat, both of them stubbornly trying to hold on even if it killed them.
Fjord rushed into the cave, to see Alduin and Miraxsil locked in the other's grip, both ripping scales and small chunks of flesh off.
"HEY! I'M BACK, YOU STUPID LIZARD!" Miraxsil's jaw released slightly in shock, allowing Alduin to fly free of her grip. Blood dripped from her needle like fangs, and she snarled at Fjord.
"Why did you come back? You had an opportunity to run, and live. He doesn't deserve your help, Fjord."
"It isn't your place to decide that, you stupid lizard. I fight for who I want." Alduin was surprised by this statement. He had only known the Dovahkiin for a few days, and he was already willing to fight for him.
"Fine. Alduin, stop hovering around my head and fight me like a proper dragon!" Alduin swooped down, and landed on the bloody stone floor next to Fjord.
"Get on."
Tilpaar saw Paarthurnax staring at a cave mouth, which had stalactites and stalagmites lining it like teeth. Some had crumbled or fallen off, and the cave looked slightly unstable. She and Foahdinok descended next to the elder dragon.
"Paarthurnax, explain. I want to know what I'm getting into." Tilpaar demanded.
"Alduin, Fjord, and Miraxsil are fighting in that cave. I called you here to help me."
"Help you?! What are you doing besides sitting here on your scaly-"
"Miraxsil's scales are hard to puncture, but we can break her bones with less force. I want you to help me collapse the cave."
"Alduin and Fjord are still in there!" Foahdinok stated indignantly.
"I know. We have to figure out a way to get them out, and keep Miraxsil in."
"I could get Fjord out, but not Alduin. Tilpaar and I could barely lift him, let alone pull him out of combat."
"We could just leave him you know. As much as it pains me to say this, he is fated to devour the world, so it might be better to kill two birds with one stone, as mortals say."
