=============================

Brooke Welch brings her rock and roll date home for Christmas not expecting her boring brother, Max, to fall for him. Best Christmas present ever.

Max was deep in the closet and well hidden from everyone but his father.

Slade, the rock and roll love interest is straight, right? Sure, he's dating Max's sister! Right. Max loved the person that Slade was and couldn't help but befriend him. He was sure it wouldn't lead to anything more than friends. Right?

Brooke sat beside Slade, as she drove to her dad's house. Slade was a guy she was seeing for now. He had time off and wanted to spend it with her. "So, I will give you the rundown on the family. My dad, Bill Welch, is a general manager or something at the sawmill. I'm not sure what he does but he loves Christmas."

"We have to drop our plans and be home for Christmas. He throws a huge Christmas ball the weekend before Christmas that the town shows up for and we do a family dinner on Christmas Eve."

"Okay." Slade inhaled.

"My boring brother, Max, is a doctor. The doctor in town. He is very straight-laced." She paused. "There are better words. Lame, uptight, pedestrian, boring."

"Pedestrian?" Slade stared at her.

"It means straight or boring. Plain. We aren't very close. He's eight years older. He's quiet and lives alone with a cat, I think. He never dates. At least, not in a long time. I was like...thirteen or fourteen when he brought the last girl home. No one since and I'm twenty-two. I'm not sure what happened." Brooke sighed.

"What about your mom?" Slade watched the decorations go by.

"Well, she left about eight years ago. My dad filed for divorce. She moved across the country and never contacted us. She was kind of a bitch to us. Haven't seen her since." Brooke sighed.

"That's harsh! What happened?" Slade couldn't imagine his mom doing that.

"I'm not sure. Her and Dad had a fight and she left. It's all I know." Brooke didn't want to talk about that any longer. "So, that is it. Just us. We have to stay until midnight at the ball. It's a deal we made our dad. I always stay longer but Max is gone as the clock strikes twelve. He isn't into parties."

"Boring. Got it." Slade smiled. "He sounds like your complete opposite."

"And yours." Brooke smiled.

Slade was hot and very successful. He has everything pierced and lots of tattoos. His arms were sleeved with tattoos and he had some on his back and chest and up on his neck too. Brooke had her ears pierced up the side of her left one and three on her right. She always thought she was good looking, beautiful. She knew it and used it.

Brooke never dyed her hair because she actually liked the color it was. It was a soft brown with natural blonde highlights and she had grey blue eyes. She had a crooked smile and mostly looked like her mother. Her brother looked like their dad.

Brooke never had a problem getting a date and Slade was no different for her. He wasn't even her first famous date. She liked hanging out with him because he was famous. He could introduce her to more famous people. He was her ride to the next famous guy, mostly. She never got to know the guys, they were her stepping stone. She held Slade at a distance and he seemed fine with that.

Brooke talked about getting more piercings and maybe her tongue but she had work. She couldn't go crazy even if she wanted to. Most of what she said was talk. She never had any intentions to pierce anything crazy or getting a tattoo but she talked about it.

She knew that Slade was on to her but he never said anything. She wouldn't keep him much longer because he would see through her and realize they had nothing in common. Brooke knew he would figure out she wasn't that into him, this was more about what doors he could open for her.
