Terry and Graham agreed that they were leaving in the morning so Max and Slade made a good meal for them. They relaxed and played video games in the afternoon. They were taking turns killing zombies. Bill was going to drop by later with Alyssa to say goodbye. There was a knock and Terry opened the door. He was expecting Bill.
"Uh, I'm looking for Max Welch?" The woman was confused. This wasn't Max.
Terry nodded. "Sure. Uh, who may I say is here?"
She looked around him. "Heather."
Terry shrugged. "Just a sec." He walked to the kitchen. "Uh, some woman named Heather is here?"
Max froze. Slade watched him "Max?"
"Max?" Heather was there. She watched Max. He looked better. Happy. Older and she hoped he was wiser.
"Mom?" Max stared.
Everyone was silent as Terry sat down beside Graham. No one spoke. Smoke started to fill the kitchen.
Slade turned and started turning off the stove and turned on the fan trying to clear the smoke. He opened a window. "Shit! I'm burning this! Terry, call for pizzas." He was busy fanning the smoke out the window.
Graham nodded. "And lots of alcohol!" He sighed.
Max hadn't moved. "What in the fuck do you want?" He ignored the smoke but he needed the alcohol soon.
Heather put a smile on. "I thought I would come by and see how you are?" She was proud that he had followed his dreams and became a doctor like he always wanted.
Max stepped in front of Slade. "I'm fine without you and I don't need you here. I don't want you here." He glared at her. "I don't want you in my house. I think it's time for you to leave."
Heather nodded. She still had hope that his fiance would stand up for her and let her stay. She wondered where the woman was? Terry already sent a message to Bill. Bill was coming. "I understand. I realize that I made a lot of mistakes when I left and I'm sorry. I talked to Brooke. She sounds older."
"She's eight years older." Max glared.
"Right." Heather smiled and nodded. "So, how are you? She said you had news and your life was moving. She said you were engaged! You're getting married?" She figured it was to a woman.
"Heather, I'm gay. I'm engaged to a man. I have good friends and I don't need you here to tell me how much of a sinner I am. I have amazing sex every day. A lot of gay sex with my gay lover!" He glared. He was daring her to say something.
Heather stared.
Bill ran inside. "Heather? What in the fuck are you doing?" He was out of breath. She had caused enough damage and Max just got back to himself, that took eight years. He was so scared at what this could do. Max would break things off with Slade and go back into hiding and Bill couldn't watch that again. He was scared for Max and Slade.
Heather was pissed and shocked about what Max just said. There was no way he could be gay. "I came to see if Max was better! I told you to help him. He's still gay? I should have taken him from you and fixed him myself!" Heather was upset. "How could you let our baby be violated by a man?"
Max sighed. "I am seven years older than him. I violated him." Max wanted to smile at her expression and he heard someone stifle a laugh. He was sure that it was Terry.
