Chapter Eight - Poetry & Song

After his failed attempt to convince Weiss to come with him, Petro begins thinking up of an alternate plan. Luckily for him, he hears that the Schnees are holding a charity concert for Vale. Petro quickly makes his way to where the concert would be held. As he reaches the door, he is stopped by guards.

Guard: Invitation, please.

Petro: Invitation? What for?

Guard: Only invited guests are allowed in. If you don't have an invitation, then you're not getting in. 

At this point, Petro became annoyed and decided to use the Force to help him.

Petro: You don't need to see an invitation. You're going to let me through. 

Guard: We don't need to see an invitation. We're going to let you through. 

The guards let Petro in without much incident. As he looks for Weiss, he hears that Weiss will be performing a song. Petro begins making his way to the stage area. Suddenly, he sees a well dressed man throwing a singer out the door to the dressing room. 

???: You son of a bitch! If I ever see you again, I will have your balls as a coin purse!

Singer: I'll get you for this, you bastard! I promise you!

The singer then stormed off, leaving Petro alone with the disgruntled man. After an awkward silence, the man turns to Petro. 

Petro: Something wrong?

???: As a matter of fact, there is. I just had to depart with a thieving prick of an associate. Now I find myself in an awkward position. 

Petro: And what would that be?

???: I'm left without a singer and this is an extremely important gig for me. This gig was going to help me settle some debts. Oh but where are my manners? Dwight Fry at your service. 

Petro: Petro. Nice to meet you. 

Dwight: You don't look like the kind of fellow that shows up at these kind of gatherings. 

Petro: You'd be right. I'm here to speak to Weiss Schnee. 

Dwight: Jilted lover?

Upon hearing this, Petro was quick to brush it off, causing Dwight to chuckle. 

Dwight: I doubt you'd get far without alerting some characters. How about we work together? You sing for me and you'll get closer to Weiss. Once the show's over, you'll be free to settle any unsettled business you have with her. 

Petro: Wow. You drive a hard bargain. 

Dwight: I just have to ask one simple question. Can you sing?

Upon hearing this, Petro immediately remembers his very brief stint as a circus performer in Preigo's Traveling World of Wonder to rescue Ahsoka Tano from Hondo Ohnaka. 

Petro: You could say that.

Dwight: That's good enough for me. Now I suggest you get ready. The performance starts in a few minutes. 

Dwight then hands Petro the costume he would be wearing for the performance. It was a aristocratic suit. He also hands Petro a white half mask. 

Petro: Are you kidding me?

Dwight: It's all about wowing the crowd. 

As the performance was about to start, Weiss takes the center stage. Dwight then informs Petro of what would go down. 

Dwight: Here's how it goes, Petro. Once Weiss finishes the first verse, you'll step in and sing with her. I hope you got some good poetry cause that thieving prick stole the music sheet. 

Petro: Don't worry. I got a plan. 

Dwight: Good man. Just uh....don't mess up. 

With that, the crowd fell silent as Weiss took a deep breath. She then began to sing. 

Weiss(Singing): I'm not your pet, not another thing you own. I was not born guilty of your crimes.

As Weiss finished the verse, Petro joined Weiss on stage and began reciting poetry from the Korfani poet Adranax.

Petro(Singing): Why mourn for tomorrow in tears today?

Weiss was able to instantly recognize Petro despite him singing in a Baritone voice. While Weiss was annoyed, she simply kept on singing. 

Weiss(Singing) Your riches and your influence can't hold me anymore. I won't be possessed, burdened by your royal test. 

Petro(Singing): When current fleeting hours not long shall stay?

Weiss(Singing): I will not surrender. This life is mine.

Petro(Singing): Come stroll with me, we shall find your lost peace in an old friend's arms and a gentle kiss.

The performance captivated the audience. Despite the two having less than favorable feelings towards one another, they were able to perform without incident. As the performance ended, Weiss and Petro were given a standing ovation from the crowd. Weiss simply looks to the audience while Petro bows. They both then turn away and head backstage. 

Weiss: You have some nerve coming here. 

Petro: I told you this conversation was over. 

Weiss: You're insufferably stubborn, aren't you?

Petro: Like I said, our conversation wasn't over. 

Weiss was enraged beyond all belief. She couldn't believe that Petro would have the gall to pull a stunt like this. However, Weiss was also impressed.

Weiss: I must say I'm impressed. I didn't think a hoodlum like you would be able to sing like that. 

Petro: I tend to surprise people. You're gonna kick me out?

Weiss: For now, you're safe. Just try to be civilized. 

Petro: I'm always civilized. 

With that, Petro could not once more attempt to convince Weiss to come with him to help in the fight against Darth Jadus. This was Petro's chance to convince Weiss to join the fight. In order to successfully do so, Petro would have to make an undeniable case to Weiss. But what he didn't know was the forces outside of his control would soon aid him in his efforts.
