Sunday,
The following day, four guys were called into the police station one after the other to provide their statements and alibis. In the interrogation room, Xu was the last suspect to be interrogated and the captain was on charge of the interrogation.
"So you last saw him on Friday night?"
"Yes. We had drinks and just talked." Xu answered sitting arrogantly in the chair.
"About what?" The captain asked.
"The past. Isn't that what people talk about on reunions."
"I see. What time did you leave?"
"He left first because he had something to take care of. Then Lin left soon after. Me and the rest after them."
"I heard you were not on the same page that day."
"Yeah we kind of have different views on some topics."
"Like lgbt topic?" The captain asked
"Yeah. You already know?"
"You're not the first one to come here for a statement."
"alright."
"So what happened after you were done with the discussion?"
"Nothing. They left."
"You haven't seen him since?"
"No I haven't."
"What were you doing on Friday night between 8-10?"
"We went camping with the boys."
"What time did you come back?"
"We spent all night there. We came back the following morning."
"All four of you?"
"Yes. Is there a problem with that?"
"Which route did you take?"
Xu, opened his phone and looked at his gps history. He showed it to the captain and he noted down in his book. The captain asked some more questions and he left the interrogation room.
He sent Mike the route and asked him to look for some cctvs. Mike texted back in a few minutes with feedback and the captain went to the office after he was done.
"Alright gather around." He shouted clapping his hands and the detectives gathered around their superior.
"Ok listen up, these guys are smart, they all said the same thing, their alibis match but are all weak and there is another route to the camping site that they went to, with no cctvs. So it's more likely that these guys are the culprits but we don't have evidence of them. Now we can only wait for the victim to wake up and get his confession. Detective kanawut wiped his face frustrated and he took over from the captain. He stepped out and stood next to the captain,
"These guys have a history of hate crime and they nearly killed a fellow student years ago. It's likely that during their reunion, they figured out that one of them is gay and did exactly what they did ten years ago. We have to find evidence that they did it at all cost."
His phone started ringing as soon as he finished taking and it was Wes calling,
"He is awake." Wes said voice full of excitement.
Kanawut relayed the message to the captain before he grabbed his jacket and started running towards his car. He got to the hospital in record speed. As soon as he got in the room, Mew slowly turned his head and his eyes weakly showed shock.
Kanawut went over to his bed and stood there clueless what to do next. Mew lifted his hand with an iv attached on the back and the detective did not hesitate to hold it,
"What are you doing here? Why are you here like this?"
Mew only shook his head, the oxygen mask still on him his face.
Gulf waited a little longer for you him as he slept some more. He spent the whole day in the room and later the doctors came.
"He is doing better than expected, although he looked almost dead when he came, they avoided the vital spots on purpose. The intention was not to kill, they might have wanted him to suffer."
Gulf got confused, "But they said a minute late, he would have been dead,"
"Yes, there was lot of blood loss. If he had lost more blood, it would have been critical but thankfully it was not the case."
"I'm glad." Kanawut said, relieved but there was a thought nudging his conscious, albeit he couldn't really tell what it was.
He switched places with Wes and waited at the hospital. The case was on standby, as they waited for Mew to start talking. The doctor gave him three more days of proper rest and medication for him to start functioning again.
Monday night, Kanawut went back to the precinct and left two police officers guarding Mew's hospital room. He needed to wash and rest. Tuesday morning, as he was preparing to go back to the hospital, a call came in and his colleague answered it. He put the phone down and called out Kanawut,
"A suspect of the Friday hate crime has been found dead this morning."
"Who is it?" Kanawut asked perplexed by the sudden news.
"They said his name is Day."
"The butcher?" Kanawut asked.
"Yes. He was found dead in his office with a butcher knife piercing his heart."
