Kanawut stopped. He was curious too. Why did Mew lie to him and say it was his friends.
"I-I I think he was confused." He stuttered wondering why he was making excuses for Mew.
"That doesn't count. It's illegal to give a false testimony,"
"There's a reason why, he'll tell us why he did that. And it's also disconcerting that their alibis are weak." Detective kanawut tried to cover for him.
"For the meantime, let's make sure these three are safe."
"I'll run to the hospital now and checkup on him."
"You do that."
Kanawut went to the hospital and Mew was still unconscious but this time with a broken ankle, he was lucky once again. These coincidences were really getting to Kanawut.
Wes looked at Kanawut after briefing him and asked, "so we're back at square one except with three more to protect?"
"Basically." Kanawut dug his hands in his pocket by habit and his hand came in contact with the silver bracelets. He took one out and handed it over to Wes. "This one is for you." He timidly said.
"Why are you giving me a bracelet all of a sudden?"
"It symbolizes good love apparently,"
"is there a thing as good love?" He asked as he accepted the gift and placed it on his wrist.
"Your guess is as good as mine. Let me see him and return to the station."
"Sure, go ahead."
Kanawut entered the hospital room, he sat down and just watched Mew sleep. He took the other bracelet and put it on his hand.
"This is so confusing," he started his monologue, "I fell in love with you and I almost died for it. Now I see you ten years later and someone out there wants you dead. If this isn't unfair then I don't know what is."
He paused playing with the bracelet on Mew's wrist. He was thinking.
"I was so happy yesterday," the smile on his face agreed with his words, "It's the first time I've felt like this." He chuckled, "actually the second time since my first time was ten years ago. Now I'm rumbling and you'll still have no idea about this when you wake up."
He sighed deeply and continued,
"I'll explain about the bracelet when you wake up so- "
The door opened and a nurse came in with a tray. Kanawut stood up and gave her space to do her thing.
"How's he doing?" He asked voice full of worry
"Just a broken ankle and a few injuries nothing really major. We did an X-ray and he didn't have any internal injuries or anything life threatening."
Kanawut was happy to hear such great news.
Until he wasn't.
"Did you say he only have a broken ankle and no other life threatening injuries?"
"Yes, we did some tests and he looked clean."
That didn't make sense.
It didn't make any sense because Mew just came out of the hospital about two days ago where he almost died because he was severely injured by the homophobes.
Kanawut looked at Mew and his eyes widened with realization.
It was Mew.
Mew was the most suspicious.
All the suspicious things came hitting him like a giant wave. He remembered the conversation they had when Mew woke up that morning. How he smiled and asked him who was the first. Kanawut remembered answering "Day" and Mew responded with a "Mhmm". His reaction seemed off but what bothered him was how Mew knew there was another case before Xu.
He thought of the night they spent together and how he carried him around the bed as if he didn't weigh anything. A person who just came out of the hospital couldn't have that much strength.
He remembered how it was chilly as if he was alone in bed, it was around 1am. He had caught a glance of the time from his night stand. He looked at Mew and thought why he was doing this to people.
He went out with this new realization, his monologue forgotten.
"Hey Wes when you were on security watch at the hospital the first time, did something weird happen?"
"Something?" Wes asked standing up to come closer to Kanawut, "Something like what?"
"Did he move or maybe disappear from the room?"
"No, he only woke up when I called you. He wouldn't have moved considering he was almost dead."
The last sentence rubbed kanawut the wrong way, "it could have been fake,"
"What do you mean?"
"The injuries could have been fake. Otherwise it doesn't make sense that he recovered so much in a week for a person who was holding on for dear life." He finished wiping the sweat from his forehead. He was nervous.
"You mean he did that to himself?"
Kanawut didn't answer that but his silence only served as confirmation.
"He couldn't have killed Xu if that's what you are implying." Wes defended.
"Then who killed him?"
"I don't know but what I know is I stood guard and he couldn't have gone out. There were two security guards in front of the door so there is no chance."
"Then I have to look for a chance."
"You're suspecting Mew for everything going on?"
"He is suspicious."
"Weren't you supposed to be on his side?"
"I'm a detective Wes and everything just points out to him. There are just too many coincidences and weird questionable things. I just can't let that slide."
"Even if there were, don't they at least deserve it? Don't you feel a bit relieved they are paying back for their sins? Don't tell me you don't feel slightest gratitude that this is happening to them?"
"I want to punish them so bad but not by simply killing them. Where's the joy in that? They did that to me and If they really
did that to Mew then they need to payback but killing them is not the way. The law can punish them just fine. Right?"He looked pointedly at Wes who looked away refusing to give confirmation of Kanawut's statement.
"Right?" He asked again and Wes gave a plastic smile in response.
