"What did you hear first?" Her hand fell to his shoulder. "From me, what was the first you heard?"

His cheeks blushed, a rose tint now covering them both. "Your laugh." She leaned forward, unable to look away. "It was a small giggle, right in the middle of the night."

"My laugh? That's not even melodic-"

His voice was firm, eyes glaring back. "Maybe not to you."

Layla's eyes blurred. Maybe it was time to settle down. She fell sideways onto her bed, the phone in her pocket coming loose and landing near her head. "I've never actually watch other people play minecraft...." she went straight to the link Alice had sent her, and it opened up a purple page.

In the middle was a minecraft pause menu. A voice boomed over, "Chat, ready for a little music?" Lay smiled at the cute sentence, reaching to turn her phone volume down in fear of growing a head ache.

The faint playing of a song running through her head. Sure it was crackled and broken and cut out, but there it was, a somewhat melody of a song she hadn't heard before.

'And I find out everyone body talks, everyone body talks, everybody talk...' her eyes lit up as the voice seemed to get louder. 'It started with a whisperrrrrr-'

A guy. A young guy singing in her head. His voice was deep but youthful, and clearly he was trying his hardest to stay in key. Layla could feel her chest palpitate. This was it, it was really starting. It was her soulmate.

But happiness never lasts, and after seconds it was gone again. Her room was silent. "Oh..." she felt lonely again. "Thanks anyways I guess... for cheerying me up."

Her eyes turned to the screen by her head, the guy still jumping around the block world. Her finger hovered over the volume, debating wether to watch any further. "If I'm not feeling the best, I should sleep..." she turned the stream off. Her eyes closed, but the song still ran through her head. She sung quietly, snuggling further and deeper into her heap of duvet. "it started with a whisper.... and that's when i kissed her..."

...

"CLAY ARE YOU SINGING?" George's voice appeared from no where, scaring the shit out of Dream and causing him to exit of Spotify all together with a short scream.

"Wh-What did you jjust call me?" He didn't like his real name being used.

"Dream, dream. Sorry." The boy laughed, "I'm ending stream anyways, call me when you've ended too."

Dream sighed, muting himself to say goodbye to chat. A little voice in his head whispering a few words to the song he just had playing. "Hmm, I guess you did hear. Or maybe your watching the stream..." Chat didn't seem to understand his mutters. "Erm, ye, sorry guys. Thanks for all the subs today, I'll be streaming my speed runs soon... gotta get my title back, yea?"

And with that he ended, standing up to stretch his legs towards the fridge. "It would be weird if she watched the stream. I mean, can you imagine?" From an outsiders view it would look like he was talking to himself. But Patches, his cat, sat comfortably on the counter top near him. "I mean, what if she heard that song and then suddenly I'm singing it on stream? Would she know it's me?"

He laughed, pulling out a left over sandwich. "What would she do? I get so many people messaging me say they heard what I'm singing... it would be too much hassle to quiz them all on it." He looked to the cat for a reaction. "You agree right, this whole thing is stupid."

Patches meowed, licking the crust of the bread in his hand. "Ye exactly! If the universe wants to set me up with some stranger then it can bring her to me! I'm not going to do the whole find me shit with track titles." He took a large bite, talking with his cheeks full of food. "And anyways, what if we meet and I don't realise it's her? Or what if she doesn't like how I look? Or who I am?"

He caught a glimpse of himself in the window reflection. The red mark on his left cheek painfully visible. "Patches, what if she doesn't like me?"

The cat just stared back.

...

"Gremlin, what if he knew I was sad?" Layla question to the dog sat on her feet, while a tooth brush was shoved between her teeth, "and that's why he sung that?"

The dog snarled, standing up and walking out. "Uh, fine then. Ignore me." She rushed to finish brushing her teeth before taking her seat in her desk chair. There was nothing to do anymore. She'd beaten him, that obsession of topping the leaderboard was completed. Once again she was bored.

Her eyes wondered around the screen, clicking on to YouTube. Layla didn't really watch videos, unless she needed to assemble a table and instructions where Swedish.

And there is was, trending #1. 'Dream vs 2 manhunters'.

"Dream? He's everywhere lately." She laughed, inspecting the thumbnail. His skin was quite funny, and it looked like two of his friends where stood over him. The views read 18M, and compared to the videos around it, it seemed like a lot. "One video won't hurt... like Alice said, just to check out the competition..."

Her index pressed down lightly, no turning back.

...

"Just to check out the competition..." Dream sighed, clicking play for the again; for the fifth time in a row. The video started again.

"Hi," a light giggle slipped out. "Layla loves flowers, speed running 1.16. Going for the current record." Her voice was extremely quiet behind the noises of wooden logs braking.

Dream rewinded it, and listened again. And again. And again. "Well, she's definitely a real girl." He finally convinced himself, hearing her giggle one last time before moving on to the video. "I just, I don't get how she does this." His eyes watched the player on screen, how she never seemed to double back or doubt herself. How she never messed up.

'Duuuu du duuu du duuuu du duuu"

"Huh?" Dream paused the video. Silence. His finger reached out to carry on playing it, and that's when he heard it again. 'Du du duuu duuu duu du du'. "My music?"

His head jolted round, looking at his phone screen and every tab open on his pc. A call came through from George, and he immediately declined it, searching thoroughly through ever app open. Nothing, he couldn't figure out where the music was coming from.

That's when it clicked. It was a girls voice singing it. The tune wasn't loud, no it was more of a mellow hum. But it was definitely a girl, her voice now and again entering his head. "My fucking, soulmate, watches my videos? My streams and youtube? She watches me?" His laugh was close to the sound of a wheezing kettle, unable to catch a breath. "I'm not gonna let this one go,

ever."
