The Cop and The Criminal’s Secret Kisses

My alarm went off at 6:30 am and my eyes shot open at the annoying sound.  Ugh, school.  Oh wait, school!  I excitedly jumped out of bed and pulled on my robe to keep me warm.  I smiled because me Kelsie and Jess were going prom dress shopping after school today.  Mum had given me £100, I was surprised she had given me so much but then she said she knew how expensive prom dresses were, and that knowing us girls, we would probably buy some accessories to go with it and probably grab a bite to eat.  Obviously I gave her the biggest hug for that.  I hopped into the shower and thought about prom.  The shower is always my thinking time.  I could imagine the perfect dress I would be wearing, and the perfect guy I would be meeting.  Then I thought of my first date with me and my new boyfriend, the one I would meet at prom, and how he would walk me home and tell me how he loved me, before gently kissing my lips and putting me into his warm arms – here I go again, over thinking things, as always.  But still, I jumped and squealed in excitement.

Before I knew it I was squeaky clean, out of the shower, already for school and almost out of the house.

“Well you seem happier than normal!  I thought school was a ‘drag’” said mum quoting my words from yesterday morning.

“I’m just excited for tonight with the girls, you know how I love shopping mum!”  I told her, still smiling.

“Oh yes, I forgot about that.  Don’t lose that money Abbie – it’s alot.  And be careful as always, okay?”  said my mum looking concerned.

I rolled my eyes and said “Yes mum, I know I know.  You’ve told me all this.  I promise to keep the money and myself safe.”  I said, my expression fake serious.

“That’s my girl.”  I gave her a goodbye hug and knocked on the bathroom door to say bye to dad - he was in the shower.  I told both of them I would be back before 6 and they approved.  Before I knew it, me and Chantal were out of the house, on the bus and on our way to school.

“So what do you expect me to do after school – get on the bus by myself while you and your girly friends go shopping to look good for a boy your never gonna get...”  she asked me.

“Seriously Chantal, if you’re not going to say anything else don’t say anything at all, okay?  And why are you scared to get on the bus alone?  School finishes at 3:45 so it’s not going to be dark at all, and your friends will get on the bus with you anyway.”  I told her.

“Scared?  I’m not scared Abbie, I just wanted to know.  But you’re right anyway.  For once...” she said in the most annoying tone.  I shook off her rude behaviour and blocked out her voice until we got to school.

“Hey Abbie!  Excited?!”  said Kirsty as I walked up to her and Jess.  “Hell yeah I’m excited!  Too bad we have hours of school first though.”  I told her.

“Oh that doesn’t matter Abs, we got some good lessons today anyway.”  Said Jess, grinning.  As I turned around to start walking, I bumped into someone...

“Ow my shoulder!”  I shrieked as his hard bag connected with my shoulder joint.  “Oh my gosh I’m so sorry-“ he said sympathetically.  He stopped on the last word of his sentence and started staring at me, smiling.  He didn’t seem to take his eyes off me, which freaked me out a bit.  Guys hardly stare at me.

“Yeah, um it’s okay I guess.”  I told him.  I didn’t want to see his eyes still staring at my face awkwardly, so I just looked at my feet until he walked away.  Which unfortunately didn’t happen.

“I’m Jake.” He said holding a hand out.  “Football jock, ladies man...” he continued, winking on the last sentence.  I shook his hand, but I wish I didn’t because he didn’t seem to let go.
