I had woken up quite early- it was hard not to when you had five early risers stomping around the house- despite the fact that it was a Saturday. The sun peeked through my curtains and lit the room in a warm, yellow glow. I reckon it's about ten seconds 'til someone walks in here asking for their breakfast, I thought fondly.
Lo and behold, it wasn't long until my youngest, Leo, walked timidly towards my bed to see if I was awake.
"Morning, sweetheart," I whispered gently to him.He gave me a tired smile before whisper-shouting to me, "When is breakfast, mummy?"
I chuckled lightly before sweeping him up into my arms and messing up his platinum blond hair and pecking him quickly on the cheek. "I'll start making something in a few minutes. Are your brother and sister awake?"
He nodded his head rapidly as he answered my question, "Scorp and Amy are watching telly and- er- oh!! Daddy told me to to tell you he went to get grandma Cissa so that she can shop in Diagon Alley with you and Scorp." His hazel eyes twinkled as he grinned at me, delighted that he'd remembered to tell me- and that he'd said Diagon Alley right.
I smiled softly at him and told him a quick 'thank you' before heading to the bathroom to get dressed for the day ahead.
As I cooked breakfast- I preferred to do it the muggle way because I found it enjoyable- I let my thoughts wander to Draco. I was replaying some Hogwatrs memories in my head when I was shaken out of my thoughts by a startled shout from my eldest child.
"Mum!" Amara exclaimed behind me.
"Mum, you're burning the eggs!!"I quickly pulled the frying pan away from the stove and plopped the eggs onto her plate before they could burn anymore.
"No they're not. Don't be so ridiculous, Amy," I replied with a joking smile. She just playfully rolled her blue eyes at me before beginning to shovel her fried eggs into her mouth.
I smiled at her before asking, "So what do you, Leo, Zoe and your dad plan on doing in Diagon Alley whilst Scorp, your grandma and I shop for your brother's first year of Hogwarts?"
She chewed on her eggs thoughtfully before she set her chocolate brown eyes back on me and answering, "I'm thinking of meeting up with Mia Zabini for ice cream and then Weasely's Wizard Wheezes. I don't know what dad plans on doing with Leo and Zoe though." Mia Zabini had been Amora's friend since they were born- and they've stuck together through the five years that they've been at Hogwarts. Mia was the daughter of Pansy and Blaise, who had married not long after me and Draco and were some of the few people from Hogwarts that we were still in contact with.
I nodded in answer to her suggestion. "That sounds fun. Maybe you should send her an owl to ask her?"
"Yeah. I'll do that now. Thanks mum!" And with that she rushed off upstairs to write her letter and -I presume- grab a jacket to keep her warm whilst we're out.
I watched her long blonde hair disappear up the stairs before shaking my head at her antics and turning around to continue making some breakfast for when Scorp, the only one who hadn't eaten yet, came in to eat.
Not two seconds later, Scorpius walked in and frowned. "You hadn't told me you were making breakfast yet!"
I laughed at his distraught expression before serving him a plate of eggs and toast.
He grinned and turned his soft, grey eyes to me to say, "You are forgiven. Thanks mum!"
"Are you excited to go shopping to day with me and your grandma?"
"I s'ppose," he answered vaguely.
"Oh come on! It'll be fun!"
"Yeah. I know. I think I'm just a bit nervous for Hogwarts," he answered without looking at me.
I frowned and ruffled his messy brown hair. I knew that he was nervous about making friends, and what house he would be in but I was determined to cheer him up.
"Tell you what," I said happily, "if you can cheer up and honestly tell me at Christmas that you've had a good time at Hogwarts and you can confirm that you've been doing well in school, then maybe- just maybe- you'll find the new Masterbolt 400 being one of your Christmas presents."
At that, he visibly perked up, "You mean it mum?!"
"Of course!"
I smiled at him as he finished up his eggs and eagerly excused himself to go and get ready.
I smiled to myself and looked out the window, at the sun shining through the trees, at Leo who, after finishing breakfast, had gone outside to play with his 9 year old sister, Zoe. Zoe was identical to me in looks but that's about where the similarities ended. She was a replica in personality to Draco- she definitely had a bit of a rebellious streak in her, as well as Scorpius.
Her and Scorpius were pranking masters. She looked up to him massively and I knew that she was heartbroken knowing that he was leaving for Hogwarts next month. She had been a bit quite the past few weeks; a silent protest of sorts. She'd be fine. I knew that. She was just upset that she wouldn't see her older brother for so long.
I sighed softly and stepped outside. The cold air made my cheeks and nose pink as I went to sit next to her on the patio.
"Leo," I said gaining the 4 year olds attention, "why don't you go and grab your shoes and coat. Your grandma will be here soon."
He stopped running around and nodded his head, grinning a bit as he opened the door to the house.
I glanced over at Zoe. Her caramel locks reached down to tickle her waist and her warm brown eyes were looking away from me in a silent request for me to leave her alone.
"Zoe," I began cautiously, "I know you're going to miss you're brother. I am too. We all are. But you have to get over this, you're just wasting precious time that you could be spending with your brother before he goes! He's excited for Hogwarts. Nervous, yes. But he's excited. You'll be going soon enough and then you'll be able to see him all the time. Until then though, I want you to be supportive of your brother. Will you do that? For Scorp? You can write to him whenever!"
She didn't answer for a long time. I was beginning to think that she just chosen to ignore me until her soft voice suddenly caught my attention again. "For Scorp? I'll do it. But I'm not happy about it. And I'm going to send him three letters a week!" She declared smugly.
I laughed softly. "Of course you will! I'll help you if you want. We can do it together," I told her smiling gently at her.
She didn't even hesitate before she turned to me and answered in deadly seriousness, "Write your own letters, mum! I'm not letting you piggyback off my ideas!"
I laughed at the teasing grin spreading across her face and let out an exaggerated sigh, "Well. There goes my first plan. Guess I'll have to come up with something different then."
It was at that point that the doorbell a loud commotion of noise and greetings was heard from inside the house. I turned to Zoe and she seemed to have drawn the same conclusion that I had because she jumped up from the porch and let out a yell of, "Grandma!" Before jumping up off the step she was sat on and running into the house to greet her grandma.
I stood myself only a few moments later and started walking up to the house. I can't wait to head into Diagon Alley. The last time I would have gone was shopping for Amy's school supplies! Of course, I don't like the risk of bumping into people. Especially not him.....
