I heard many stories about you,
How you yelled at my dad when he was a young marine,
How you helped my mom get her first job in the US,
And, of course,
How you chased coyotes with a helicopter.
There were many stories,
And I had so many questions to ask.
Then I heard what happened,
Alzheimer's.
It was heartbreaking
Seeing my dad trying to get you to remember him.
You stared blankly at him
Only gibberish escaped your lips as you sat there
hunched over in your wheelchair.
He wanted you to remember.
I wish he had the chance to speak to you again, sir.
I've never seen my father display remorse or heartbreak,
But with you...
His smile was forced.
Through his eyes you could see his heart being torn
From losing another friend.
(A/N: made fixes to this one. I still remember all of this and the original had a lot of incorrect grammar and I do not believe I fully understood Alzheimer's, I was a kid after all. Thanks for reading!)

Poetry ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
PoetryI've been writing since middle school as a way to convey how I felt. I've kept these in an old composition book that I still keep by me about 10 years later. I suppose it's time to share and hope maybe it will help someone out there.
