The smell of sweat and cleaning supplies greeted me as soon as I stepped in the door. I could also hear the rustling of chains from being punched.
This place was amazing.
You could tell the owner built this place with no little amount of effort. Everything was sleek modern and black. All of the equipment , the floors, the walls , the boxing ring all black.

People big, little and small sparring, punching, kicking, and training.
Looking around I searched for a front desk or counter. When I couldn't find any I grew confused.
"Are you lost??" asked a rough but also soothing voice with an British accent.
I whirled around to find a man in about his late thirties or early forties giving me an assessing glance.
"Oh no I'm here to learn how to box." I say in the most confident voice I can muster.
He looks me up and down and then gives me an look of understanding.
"You wanna learn to protect yourself." He states.
A statement not a question.
I suppose different people have come here for similar reasons if he already knows why I'm here.
Or maybe he knew so quickly because I'm the size of an ant and I clearly have no muscle to be a fighter so that's the only reason I could be here.
"Yes I do but I have no idea where to start."
"Well I or Leon over there can train you but you would have to pay."
Leon hears that his name is being mentioned and gives me a small wave.

How could I forget that this might cost me some money when I already have little to spear.
I slowly look him in the eye and give him a pleading glance. "Look Umm I don't have much money or time but is it possible to come in and work for it instead of paying?? I'll come in whenever possible and clean or do anything of help that could pay for it. I'll do it for as long as long as I need to but I just really really need this."
He sighs and I catch a glimmer of sympathy in his eyes "Look I've never done anything like that before but we could figure something out."
A smile starts to work it's way onto my mouth and I throw my arms around him before I could help it.
"Thank you so much I will work as hard as I can to make sure you will not regret it."
