Draco had gone to speak to Professor Snape about something after lunch, and so the rest of the 8th years were alone in the common room. Pansy was still floored about Harry glaring at her. She had no idea what had happened or what had been said for him to suddenly stop eating and leave. And then, she had a epiphany.
"Oh my god!", she screamed out. Hands against her cheeks, she was putting all the puzzle pieces together, the others could practically see the wheels turn in her head. They wondered what the hell was going on with her. Was she hurt? Did she just have an idea? What? "Pansy, what's going on?", asked Blaise. She smirked at her friend, because she was privy to information that no one else was. She took a seat in front of the fire and started explaining her sudden outburst.
"When we walked in yesterday, after seeing that Harry was back. We left and came back and he and Draco were hugging, what exactly did you guys see?", she asked. They had no idea what she was on about, except Hermoine. She of course knew, and had seen the amazing hug that Harry had given Draco. But she didn't want to voice anything just yet, better to wait and see where Pansy was going with this.
"Let me tell you what I saw. And then I will tell you what I know. And then you will tell me if I'm being stupid. OK?".
They all nodded, intrigued by where the conversation was going. Anything to do with Harry and Draco was always news. Wine was poured and they started listening. "For years, ever since fourth year actually, Draco hasn't been insulting Harry because he hates him. He has been insulting him just to get a reaction out of him. Because that's the only way he gets to talk to him. His words, by the way, not mine. Then when he is taken to the infirmary, the look on Draco's face was one of utter sadness. Then when Harry came back, and they hugged, I'm almost sure that they either kissed, or they were going to when we barged in. Then today at lunch, I call Draco by a nickname that I have been calling him for years, which is Draco baby, and Harry glares at me like I've just stolen his favorite toy. He stops eating, and storms out of the hall. I'm pretty sure they like each other!", she finished panting with a huge smile.
Shock. Absolute shock were on the faces of the people in the room. She started laughing. "You should see your faces!", she gloated. "I'm not having you on, I'm dead serious. When Mcgonagall asked us if we knew who Harry had feelings for, I had my suspicions. Then Hermoine said that she was sure it's a Slytherin. Hermoine also said, that no matter who it is, we have to support Harry and his decision. Don't you remember?!", she shouted.
They said yes, they remember all of that. But what had been the signs. Were they as oblivious as thirteen year old teenagers? Hermoine looked at Pansy and smiled. She had known for a while that Harry had feelings for Draco, but it was never her place to say anything to anyone. She had tried to talk to Harry about it before the war, but he always blew her off. Pansy's deductions were brilliant, and so she coughed into her hand, and said, "I agree with Pansy. Harry has been having feelings for some time now. He would never tell me who it was, but I think it was pretty obvious. He kept looking for Draco at every meal time, and there were days that he couldn't stop staring at him. He became obsessed with him in sixth year, and I know that if Harry does love Draco, he will do so completely. That is how Harry is. When he loves, he loves completely. And unconditionally. So, I will support them no matter what, because what Harry needs most of all right now, is love. And if Draco is the one to give him that, well then, I'm going to encourage it and be happy for them", she finished with a sigh.
Neville stood up, and said he would support them. They had all made peace, called a truce, and forgiven each other. Harry was right, given time, maybe they could be more than friends. Blaise stood up, and said yes, he would love to see them together. Luna stood up and said, at last, Harry can have what he wanted. Dean and Seamus stood up and pledged their support for their friends. One by one they all stood up. Ron was the last to stand up. "In my head, it seems weird, but in my heart it seems right".
"Cheers", they all shouted. But there was just one problem. They couldn't let Harry and Draco know that they had this knowledge, and chose to keep it to themselves, until they told them the news themselves. "We will hex them if they don't hurry up. I am in the mood for a good love story", said Pansy. Just then the door opened, and Harry stepped in. "Hey guys", he said.
Silence greeted him. Narrowing his eyes, he was curious as to what had been discussed before his arrival. "Something you want to tell me?", he asked them. They all shook their heads no, and then to push away any suspicion, Hermoine asked, "How was the meeting with Dumbledore Harry?" He thought he saw a sudden shift, and a smile, but he chose to ignore it, and answer her question.
"It was enlightening", he answered pouring himself a whiskey. Just then the door opened again, and Draco walked in. They were watching Harry intently, hoping to see what Pansy and Hermoine had spoken of. And Harry didn't disappoint. He eyed the blond man from head to toe, raking him in with his eyes as he walked up to the bar. He licked his lips at the sight of him, and was secretly glad that Dumbledore wasn't there to witness his lust. "Draco, would you like a whiskey?", asked Harry, with a husky voice. Draco looked up, smiled at Harry, and said yes please. Then he turned to the others in the room. "Why do all of you look like you have stolen cream?", he asked with a snobbish huff.
"Yeah, I can ask the same thing", said Harry giving Draco his glass. Walking over to the lounge area, he sat on the carpet just in front of the fire. No other chairs were available, so Draco took a seat next to him. "What were you talking about when I walked in?", he asked taking a very welcome sip of his whiskey. "We were talking about how long you were in the hospital wing for Harry, and that we're glad to have you back. And then we were talking about how far behind you must be with the work", said Luna.
Harry just smiled at her. He had forgotten about class. "Oh crap, I've forgotten about class and work and the actual reason I'm here", he said with a laugh. They all laughed at his words. He was thinking about telling them what had been said between him and the headmaster. He looked up, and decided to ask them something first. "If any of you were in a really dire situation, where a life depended on it, and you only had two options, what would you do? One, you betray your friend, or two, you ask that friend to help you?".
They knew that this had something to do with what had happened to Harry on his mission. They kept silent, waiting for him to continue. "The other night when I thought I was worthless, I kept playing the scene in my mind, over and over and over again, trying to make sense of what had happened. What had I missed. Then today, Dumbledore told me that the man who had betrayed me, had done so, to save the life of his wife. Signing a contract to kill someone, even before he knew who it was. What would you have done?", he asked.
"Oh Harry", sighed Hermoine and Luna. "Is that what happened?" they asked.
"Yes. He had been looking for a cure, and the wrong people found out about it, offered to pay for his wife's treatment, on the condition that he kill me", he said. "I wish he had asked me for help, I would have given it, but to try and take one life in exchange for another, it seems wrong, doesn't it? And I don't know if I'm ready to forgive him just yet. I mean, it's a lot to swallow. How do you put value on a life, because, to me all life is priceless. Precious even". He stopped talking and looked at all their faces.
He could see sorrow, pain, heart sore and most of all anguish. He turned to Draco, and was sad to see that he had tears in his eyes. He didn't want anymore sadness to fill this room and their hearts, and so he lightened the mood by saying, "Dumbledore wants me to talk to the students tomorrow. Who is going to help me with a speech?", he sniggered.
Draco lifted a brow at him, and Harry thought he had never seen anything that sexy before. Smiling at him, he raised a brow in return. Oh yes, the others thought, there was definitely something brewing there.
