So, I'm in the middle of The Rainbow, the sequel of The Dove Keeper.
SO IT MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.
And some things keep bugging me. To start with one person: Jasmine.
Not as she stands between Gerard and Frank's relationship, but as she practically whines about everything! Like, she wanna be that not normal mom who is a vegan and shit, and she says she is unique and all that, but if we think about it, she is an early hipster-like person. Like, she says she don't wanna follow any example given by society, but maybe these examples exist for a reason??? Like, what about hospitals? If she wanna risk her and her babie's life, okay, call a midwife and give life to that kid in you house! Society prefers the hospital because it is the safest way, not because they want to force mothers to be high on painkillers and shit. And what about veganism? I get that animals do suffer and it's kinda wrong, but the human race don't have tooth like these by accident. I studied in third or fourth grade that humans have tooth to eat both vegetables and meat. Like, evolution? I'm not that big meat-lover myself, but I think eating all kind of pills and tablets instead of some real food is useless? We can rant about morals and all that, but there are some things that cannot be ignored.
(If someone reads it and have an opinion about it, please, share!)
Another thing is how easily people can form Frank in this book. Like, he talks about veganism with Jasmine and boom! Suddenly he turns into a vegetarian, too. I do get that he has his own battles with consuming his child, but come on! If you stop something completely, don't you think it has side-effects? Anyway, it starts to turn into the previous veganism-meat eating stuff. So.
An other thing that makes me cringle (is it how you write it?) is the fact that everyone seems to be that fucking happy hippy and shit. I get that book is about freedom and all things sunny and happy, but what about some fucked up gray person who practically lives in theit cubicle? Not everyone has the life of an artist. I don't even really know a real artist! So it makes it a bit unbelieveable for me. Maybe later someone comes and changes that. I'm still at Ch 26?
Oh, I almost forgot! Cassandra! Her and Frank's relationship is what makes me want to sream sometimes. I know that she is that whizz kid with the nude model mom but she acts completely unhuman to me. She bossed Frank around and all that stuff. Like she is not some fifteen year old toddler. I'm not much older with my seventeen years, but if my mom's friend and his boyfriend came to ours to live there bc they lost their previous home, I'd be all helpful and trying not to bug them that much. But maybe it's my view of life.
Ps. Sorry for any grammatical mistakes, it's 00:43 here and it's only my second language.
