Still pondering on the ideas of the incoming war we would be fighting, I let myself lay down on the couch. I had been trying to move around a bit, but Didyme had kindly scolded me for my attempts. I was left a bit handicapped on the couch and if I didn't want to upset my sister-in-soul I would continue to lay down like a good queen, as she had so nicely put it.

War wasn't something I thought I would find myself stuck in the middle of. Italy had been stable for decades and I didn't have any plans to join the military, or to be in any government position at all. I had been thrust into a position I didn't understand at all, but I had seen enough of the news and read enough books to know how some queens acted.

To be a good queen or a queen who cared more about her queen than her people. The answer was obvious, I wasn't some sort of power hungry sadist like the Wicked Witch of the West. When you just got told a week ago that witches aren't green and actually exist in a secret underground world where they also just had a war. What a wonderful situation you've found yourself in, Astraea, just fabulous. Only you would have this happen to you.

Things were different now that I knew about vampires. All those stories that kids in town used to tell about creatures of the night... some of them were true. Eternal love and passion exists in this world. Magical beasts of all kinds roam free. Non-Magical people were shielded. I understood why, we would try and kill anything different from us.

Before I could think further, the door to the East Towers was opened, revealing Caius, who took one sniff of the air and snarled.

"Why were they in here?" He questioned, almost angry. I let out a knowing sigh and Caius growled. "Newborns here with you? I thought I told them━"

"━Please, don't be angry with my cousins, they haven't seen me since you-know-what. I promise they were in full control of themselves. Their eyes stayed bright red the entire time." My blonde mate seemed a bit shocked at that. "Believe it or not, my cousins would never lay a finger on me. I've practically raised them since uncle and his wife were always at work and couldn't do it themselves. They said they didn't feel hungry around me so Didyme and Sulpicia let them stay."

"Newborns aren't supposed to have that much control," Caius mumbles.

"Well they do, so give them a chance to see me," I said as Marcus poked his head into the room. "Ciao, Marcus."

"Ciao bella. How have you been today? You sound much better than when we brought you," Marcus pestered, speeding over to my side. "Ah, your cousins came to see you. I don't think Ambrose is afraid of his kings at all."
