The car ride to the doctor is short. You sit next to James, who is driving. You haven't talked to him about Sirius and you are not planning on doing so. You know how disappointed James is in Sirius. That is why you asked him to come with you to the doctor. You had made an appointment together with Remus, but this one agreed that you should take James. So now you are in the car with James. He has a big smile on his face, but he is not really happy. You know he feels terrible. This morning at breakfast he didn't say a word and by the bags under his eyes you could see that he had not slept a lot, if even at all.
You arrive at the doctor five minutes later. James lets you out of the car and takes your hand like the real gentleman he is. You chuckle and squeeze his hand. He squeezes back but with less strength. You look up to him and see he is twitching his nose; something he always does when he is nervous.
'Are you nervous, James?' you ask and smile when James nods. You bump your shoulder against his arm. 'That's fine, I am nervous too. What if I am not pregnant at all?' James head turns quickly to you.
'What do you mean?' he asks surprised. You open the door and let James in. You follow him to the waiting room.
'Well, I have done a test, but those are not a hundred percent reliable. So it could be that there was a mistake and I am not pregnant after all,' you explain. James shakes his head in confusion.
'But what about the sickness? And the super emotions you have been experiencing?' You laugh at James.
'That is why I expect to be pregnant, but you never know.' You give James a smile and he turns his gaze to a little boy that is playing with toys. His mother is reading a magazine and when her kid walks up to her she takes him in her lap and shows him pictures in the booklet. James snickers and then looks at you.
'That could be you in a few years.' You rest your head on James' shoulder and close your eyes.
'I know,' you whisper back.

'Congratulations! You're going to be a mother!' the doctor says. You stare at her. Even though you already knew, you are stunned. Suddenly it feels so real.
You can't concentrate on the rest of the appointment and all you hear is a soft buzzing in your ears. The doctor explains a lot to you, but you don't really register it. Luckily James is sitting next to you, paying attention. You just stare at the doctor's desk. After a few minutes the doctor is done talking and you look up.
'I do wish to ask you some questions before you go,' she says. You nod. 'Alright. Do you smoke? ' You shake your head. 'Drugs?' Again no. 'Have you drunk any alcohol since the fertilization?' You shake your head again. She asks more questions about your health and you politely answer them. 'And you are the father?' the doctor asks James.
'No, no. I'm just attachment,' James says with a smile.
'Oh, okay. Is the father still in the picture?'
'Yes, but he does not know yet. The situation is... complicated,' you say. The doctor smiles and writes something down.
'That is fine, we get that more often here.' The doctor smiles at you like she knows what is going on. She gets up and you and James follow her. 'If you have any questions just call us or make an appointment and here-' she hands you some leaflets '-read these, then you know what you can expect. I also advise on reading books, but you are still early in the process, so that is less relevant for now.' You shake the doctor's hand and walk out. James follows you and places his hand on your upper back.
The ride back home is just as silent as the way to the doctor, but this time the tension is different. Right before you arrive at home James finally says something. 'I can't believe you're gonna be a mother! That is so... mature!'
