Remus Lupin loved to meddle in the lives of his friends. Honestly, it was one of his favorite pastimes. All of it was for a good cause, of course, so when James Potter asked Remus if he could visit during summer vacation time, Remus took it upon himself to interfere with his best friend's love life.
Remus's plan involved you; his lovely muggle cousin, finished with three of your four years at university, and, Remus thought, a perfect match for James's incessant flirting and rather cocky personality.
After graduating Hogwarts, Lily Evans left James for a man she met working at the ministry. James had dramatically stated to the Marauders that he was bound to spend the rest of his life as an eligible bachelor.
Your last relationship had ended over a year ago; he had cheated on you with your best friend, and you had written to Remus in multiple letters that you felt you were destined to be an eligible bachelorette for the rest of your days.
It could not have been a more perfect match.
You arrived at Remus's home on a beautiful June afternoon, eager to spend the next few months with your favorite cousin. Although you were jealous of his magical abilities, hearing stories of his days at Hogwarts and stories from his current work as a professor brought you great joy.
Upon entering his home, you heard laughter coming from the living room that certainly did not belong to your cousin.
A man with messy, dark hair and glasses covering bright hazel eyes stepped into the foyer of Remus's home and his gaze locked with yours. Immediately, you felt a tug at your heart and a warm feeling in your stomach, but you barely had time to acknowledge it before you were scooped up in a bone-crushing hug from your cousin.
"Y/N! My wonderful, beautiful, intelligent, Y/N! I'm so happy to see you, I hope your trip wasn't too bad."
You giggled as Remus twirled you around in his arms. Even though you were spinning in circles, you couldn't help but notice the confused look on the face of the other man in the room once Remus set you down.
"So, Moony, you've got a secret girlfriend you didn't tell us about?"
You gagged and glared at your snickering cousin.
"Oh gosh, gross, I'm Remus's cousin! My mum is his mum's sister, which makes me a muggle. But you won't have to hide your magic around me, I've known for ages."
You stuck out your hand and introduced yourself properly, and he did the same.
James Potter; a perfect name for the handsome man standing before you.
Remus had told you about his friends at school, and the names Sirius, James, and Peter had come up far more than any others. They were known as the Marauders, which you found slightly endearing but mostly just strange, and James seemed to be quite a character from the stories you had been told. Remus had also mentioned many times that you and James would be cute together, but you ignored him since you despised being set up.
"Right, well, I'm going to take Y/N's luggage up the stairs to her room so keep her company, alright James?"
Remus quickly grabbed your things and ran up the stairs, leaving you alone with his friend.
"You know," James said loudly, "there's something about you that doesn't sit right with me."
You scoffed and crossed your arms while shooting him a glare. Remus had definitely failed to mention that his best friend was a pompous asshole, but you could handle yourself.
"Well you'll be very happy to know that now the feeling is mutual."
"I won't pretend to be nice to you just because you're my best mate's cousin."
