As Newt and I walked back into the orphanage for lunch, everyone was sitting down around the room eating what I think was ham and cheese sandwiches.
Ms.White looked up and told us our food was in our room, but when we got there, Newt's pillow and blankets were across the floor and the word "LOSER" was written on his pillow with a red marker.
"Who did this?!" I asked Newt.
He sighed and said it was no big deal, but it was.
"Who did this?!!" I asked more demanding this time.
"Probably Gally." He told me.
"Who's that?" I asked
"The tallest and oldest kid in the main room." He told me.
I ran out and looked for the tallest kid. He looked about 16 and had dirty blond hair. When he saw me, he laughed. I had heard things about people saying they felt a urge to punch somebody, well, I felt that urge. My right hand twitched as i walked up to him and said "you know, your not funny."
"Well look here. The new kid trying to stand up for his boyfriend." he said.
My eyes were suddenly wide open. I didn't know what to say
"Haha now you know why he doesn't have many friends."
I was so shocked by him that as I turned to go back to my room, I saw Newt standing in the doorway, tears falling down his face. i hurried to walk toward Newt to comfort him, but he turned away and ran back to our room. Luckily, the doors didn't have locks. As I opened the door, the light was turned off and the window curtain was closed, and the room was very dark. I saw Newt crying on his bed. I went up the ladder to my bed and got my blanket and put it around him, luckily he didn't hesitate. I sat down next to him and even in the dark light, I could see how red his eyes were from crying.
"Your sexuality doesn't change how you are to me." I told him. He looked up at me and leaned into my chest. I put my arm around him and his eyes met mine. It was only a matter of seconds before his lips were on mine, we were so close I could feel his heart beating fastly. I wrapped my arms around him and suddenly, my sweatshirt was about to be off my shoulders, oh no, I quickly backed away to get my sweatshirt back on. Newt looked at me confusingly, and I tried to fake a smile and said "Sorry, I'm a little bit cold." I hoped it sounded more believable when I said it. Newt didn't seem to buy it and now was not a good time to explain. I went to the window and pushed back the curtain. It was getting dark out. "I'm not really in the mood for dinner." I told Newt. I climbed the ladder to my bed and lay down.
When I woke up next morning, Newt wasn't in his bed. I went to the small cafeteria. Newt wasn't there either. I remembered what Newt told me yesterday at the place in the yard. 'How he went there to escape what he called his hellish life'. I went to the back door and walked to the part of the broken fence, I crawled through the window, and sure enough Newt was in the corner with his pillow and blanket. I have to admit he looked even more adorable. I mean uh...

Newt looked up when he heard me come in, than turned away.
"I'm sorry about last night." He told me.
"What's there to be sorry for?" The words were out of my mouth before I knew it.
I realized if I hadn't just backed away to fix my sweatshirt, this wouldn't be happening.
"You were freaked out by me. I could see it in your eyes." he said
"It's not that." I told him.
"Can I just be left alone for now?" He asked me.
"No. I'm not gonna leave you alone here." I told him.
"GET OUT!" He yelled.
I was surprised at how mad he sounded. I backed away to the window. Newt suddenly looked really sorry.
"Thomas-" Newt began.
But I turned and went through the window before he could say anything else. I went to the cafeteria and got a piece of toast, and out of the corner of my eye, saw Gally pointing at me and laughing with a few other people. This will probably be a long day I thought to myself.
