Chapter 13

I left jo for just a second to grab her water and I come back and she's gone
"Hey have you seen jo?" I ask after running into digs who's drinking a can of coke
"Nope but what are you doing here?" She asks and I shrug
"Party crashing with jo as long as none of Tristan's friends see us" I say and she laughs
"I saw you playing beer pong with n.c and cassie earlier but I'm not a fan of party games or drinking in general really" she says and I guessed that already
"Wanna help me find jo so she doesn't do anything stupid" I ask and she nods
"Sure there's nothing else to do here" she says and we start walking towards the living room
"So you didn't sit with us at lunch" i say and she looks up at me
"Yeah Uh I was busy" she says and just the way she's saying it is like she has something to hide
"Like what?" I ask and she shrugs
"Well I'm in the same grade 10 science class as Emily and the teacher made us stay back" she says and I had no idea she was taking science 10
"Oh dude you guys are doing a project together or something" I say and she smiles
"Yeah" she says and I think I spot Jo's green hair amongst the crowd by the basement stairs

Turns out It is jo so I hand her the water and lead her back to a spot where we won't be spotted by Tristan
"What would he even do kick us out? It's not even his house" jo says but she's not considering the option of we get the crap kicked out of us for being here
"Honestly I'm surprised he invited n.c and especially cassie I mean him and cassie were dating for a while then had a pretty weird breakup" digs says but honestly I'm thinking he only invited n.c and cassie tagged along
"Backyard football of anyone wants to join!" Someone yells from the doorway of the room and I think it's best we don't but jo is already dragging me outside with digs in tow by the time I register what she's doing
"Hey we can't what if Tristan's friends see us" I say to her and she shrugs
"Stop being a scaredy-cat you're an inch taller than him and you've faced way tougher people than him" she says and digs makes a sound of agreement from behind us

The fenced in backyard is packed when we get out there except for a big space I'm assuming is the field they'll be playing on
"Is Erin wearing Jackson's hoodie?" Jo asks and I look over at erin who is in fact wearing Jackson's favourite Kirby as link sweater
"Yup but it is kinda cold out here" I say and she nods
"We should join I mean yeah it's football but they won't actually be tackling us" digs suggests and I shake my head
"No thanks" I say and jo looks at me
"Come on it'll be fun plus you're tall and built like a brick wall" digs says and I roll my eyes
"I'm not built like a wall i mean I am one kinda but I'm just on the stronger stalkier side of volleyball players" i say and she motions to herself
"Im a 5'6" Libero i would have no chance against them without you" she says and I look over at jo
"She's definitely not joining though because that water has not kicked in yet" I say and digs nods
"You know what I have a better Idea than football,let's go throw her in the pool that'll wake her up" she says and I laugh
"Have you ever tried to throw jo in a pool it almost ends as bad as when people call her Jolene" I say and she smiles
"What's a party without a little risk" She says so I grab jo and lead her over to the pool

"Hey where are we going the games that way" jo says as we round the house
"It's October why is the pool even full anyway" I say quiet enough that jo doesn't hear and digs shrugs
"They fill it specifically for parties" digs says quietly
"Pools last all year round in like Florida but I didn't expect year round pool parties here" I say and digs shrugs
"It's something to do" she says then it seems to register to jo what we're planning but good thing we're not that far from the pool
"Hey woah put me down" she says after I pick her up since she's trying to run away
"Nope pool time" I say and she can't help but laugh
"Please I like this hoodie" she says and I stop
"Fine take it off then I'll dunk you" I say and she complies then hands her hoodie to digs
"Hey no fair" I say as she starts to run away but runs right into Declan who's of course is with Tristan and his friends

They grab both of us and he smirks
"Thanks for the idea juvie" Tristan says as him and his friends drag us both towards the pool
"Please Stop i can't swim" I say and he rolls his eyes
"Everyone says that every time" he says and that's probably true
"I'm serious Tristan" I say and jo nods
"She is" jo says but it's no use so all I have to do is take a deep breath before I'm thrown into the pool
