Chapter 3

Erin^
I wake up and get dressed when there's a knock on my door
"Hey I'm leaving for practice in 10 and if you're not there you're finding your own way to tryouts" Jackson says and I open the door just as he walks away
"I'm pretty much ready" I say and he turns around and smiles
"also I Uh heard you had an encounter with Erin" he says as we walk together towards the kitchen
"Yeah she's really nice" I say and he laughs
"Yup and she likes you which is good because she's my new girlfriend" he says and I'm shocked
"Wow never would've thought the golden boy and the golden girl of our high school would get together" I say sarcastically
"Haha Very funny"he says as I grab a granola bar and my backpack then follow him out the front door
"Get in loser" he says jokingly and I get in the passenger side

I get ready and go join digs and her friend in the gym warming up
"So how was your morning so far" I ask trying to make conversation
"Pretty good,I saw a cute dog on my run this morning" digs says as we volley back and forth with another girl
"Not bad yours? Im Taylor the teams setter" she says smiling at me
"Nice to meet you Taylor and not bad either" I say hitting it to her
"Your cousin is Jackson hill right" digs says and I nod
"Yeah" I say as another girl comes over

"Hey lilly wanna join us?" Taylor asks and she nods then digs sends the ball over to her
"Hey juvie where'd you learn to receive like you did yesterday?" Lilly asks and I laugh I guess that's my team nickname now huh
"From my gang mates" I joke but by her face I don't think she get it
"I'm joking,I grew up playing in Texas a bit" I say and she laughs
"Funny" she says passing the ball to me
"Do you play club?" Taylor asks but I don't have time to reply before coach calls us in to start

Coach divided us into two teams for a scrimmage game
"Alright choose a team captain" coach says once we're divided up as evenly as he thinks possible which puts me on a team with jazz,Cassie,digs and a couple other girls
"I think we can all agree on Lilly" a girl says to the rest of the opposing team and there's a series of yes's
"Well jazz wanna be captain" Cassie says to jazz who smiles broadly
"I'd love to" jazz says as we take our position but Just my luck I'm left with serving first in this rotation when we get a point
"You guys serve first" Lilly says and tosses me the ball

At first I do a lazy serve which somehow ends up gaining us a point because they weren't expecting it
"Come on juvie What was that" Taylor says because she can tell I was being lazy and I smile
"Don't call her that" coach says
"No it's ok I kinda like it" I say then get ready to serve for real this time
"Woah" digs says watching as I send it sailing over the net and it bounces off Taylor's arm then hits the floor
"oops Sorry" I say but don't mean it and taylor laughs from the other side of the net
"I deserved that but good luck doing it again" she yells rolling the ball back to our side of the net
"Go easy or Taylor will make it her mission to make at least 2 kills off you" jazz says to me before I set up for another serve
"Basically don't go for 3 in a row" I say and she laughs
"Yup" she says before I serve this time I Don't mean to but accidentally hit it to Lilly who makes a nice receive anyway

We end up narrowly winning by the time coach calls us in
"Good job everyone" he says then turns to a girl I've learned is Emily
"Your receives are getting much better Emily and digs good job with your receives as well" he says
"Thanks coach but the person we should be spotlighting is ace,did you see the way she did that attack not to mention her serves at the beginning of the game" digs says and I blush
"I did but it's all thanks to good setups" I say and Lilly laughs
"Don't be modest juvie you did good" she says before we break to get ready for class

I'm putting my stuff in my locker after second period when Tristan and his posse come up behind me and shove me into the lockers
"I've been told you've been getting on my brothers girlfriends nerves lately" Tristan says,I knew ditching and making Paige mad would end badly for me
"I finished what she told me so I don't see why" I say after turning to him
"My brother would say something different" Tristan says then snatched the papers off the top of the binder in my hands
"Hey leave her alone Tristan" a familiar voice says and I look over and see a girl from this morning who's known by her initials n.c which are short for Nikayla cutler
"Well Nice to see you too nik" Tristan says and I get the sense they know each other
"She's with us now I mean after today she's basically on the team" she says and Tristan chuckles
"Half of you guys are my exes including you even if it was for only a week and a half,I'm not scared" he says and honestly I'm kinda surprised

I hangout with n.c and her friends at lunch since jo is busy with something and it's been pretty fun getting to know them
"Let's play never have I ever" n.c suggests then looks over at one of her friends to start the game
"Ok um never have I ever kissed a guy at a party" she says and me,n.c and Ethan put down a finger
"Never have I ever smoked" Ethan says and again me and n.c put another finger down
"Never have I ever lived here my entire life" I say and everyone but me puts a finger down
"Uh Never have a ever been invited to one of Spencer's parties by Spencer" the girl next to me says and only Ethan puts a finger down
"Come on n.c didn't he come talk to you about one earlier" she says
"No that was for something else,To him Im cool but still his little bothers ex" n.c says shifting uncomfortably
