How difficult can it be to talk to a boy's father?

I was a grown man, wanting to marry the love of his life, not some nervous teenager trying to get lucky on prom night.

I was pacing back and forth in front of the house where Gun spent his childhood, trying to get me to knock on the door.

Mike and I had gotten off to a good start, if he remembered correctly.

Either way, there was a small hint of doubt that he won't give me his blessing, of he thought I'm not good enough for his family.

"Jumpol!" His voice made me jump. I didn't hear him coming out. "You're going to dig a hole in my hall. Get your ass over here."

I cleared my throat nervously. "Good to see you again, Mike."

He was still in uniform, that meant he had easy access to the weapon.

I knew he wasn't going to kill me, I was a man with children.

Anyway, a shot in the leg or something like that didn't sound like something I didn't want to experience either.

I took a deep breath and followed him inside, closing the door behind me.

He motioned for me to sit on the couch. "How are the kids?" He asked politely.

"They're great," I replied. "The boys have managed to stay out of trouble most of the time. Chim had no problem adjusting to a new school. I think being in the same class as Tim helped him, and Alice made a lot of friends in preschool. I'm sure my house will be bursting with three and four year olds in no time. "

Mike giggled, but they didn't relax me. "Would you like something to drink?" He asked.

"I'm fine, thank you," I replied, I think he would throw it on me.

"Let's get down to business then," Mike said, leaning forward in his chair. "You didn't drive all the way just to say hi."

Shit.

"No sir," I replied politely. "I am here to ask for your blessing."

"For that?" He asked even though we were both aware that he knew the answer.

"I hope to marry Gun and be a father to Chim," I replied. "They are already part of my family. I want to make it official."

The man looked me up and down, and the room filled with tense silence.

Finally, he took the remote control and turned on the television.

I was confused, was he really going to watch a game at a time like this?

He then took a remote control that was separate. Without saying a word, he turned on a home movie.

"Godji, now is probably not a good time," Mike said tightly.

"My baby is having a baby. Do you think I'm going to miss this?" Godji answered from behind the camera.

A teenage Gun was gritting his teeth and taking deep breaths through his nose, he looked like he was ready to kill someone and was holding onto the bars of the hospital bed.

"Smile honey!"

Gun glared at the camera. "Mom," he growled.

Godji backed away. "I'll move out of the way," she said. She did that, but kept the camera facing Gun as Mike reached his side.
