Off

The constant sound of the doorbell pulled me out of bed.

I tried not to trip over anything as I went to see who the cruel person was that was waking me up so fucking early.

When I opened the door, I had to blink a few times to make sure my eyes weren't playing tricks on me.

“About time,” Krist said as he walked past me toward the house and up the stairs.

"Hello, Off!" I looked down and there was Chimon.

Maybe I was still asleep after all, because what was Chimon doing with Krist?

“Hey boy,” I replied sleepily.

“He woke me up too,” he said sympathetically.

I took him by the shoulders and brought him inside.

“Would you like something to eat or drink?” I asked.

“No thanks,” he replied.

I flopped down on the couch and he sat next to me.

If I'd been more awake, I probably would have wondered what Krist was up to.

I noticed that Chimon was yawning, so I pulled him so he could lean against my arm.

We both fell asleep.

I wasn't sure how long it had been, when suddenly Krist returned.

“Upstairs, sleepers,” he said cheerfully.

Both Chimon and I groaned, and I saw Tim and Alice were dressed and on either side of him.

“Is there any particular reason for you to go around picking up the loor little kids?”

“They’ll come with me to meet New, Fiat and Nanon. Grandparents' Day is coming up, so we will take a photo with all the grandchildren for Jane and Arm,” he explained. “We would have forced Gun to come, but I figured that since he was going to be alone all day, maybe you'd like to go keep him company.”

He winked at me. “Come on, little ones. Have a nice day, Off!”

Gun was home alone.

I needed to go there.

I took my keys and walked to the door then I realized…I needed to get dressed.

Snorting at my own stupidity, I went back to my room to get ready.

When I finally got to Gun's house, I didn't even bother to ring the bell.

Knowing him, he would probably be irritated that I had made him get out of bed to come open the door for me.

I walked slowly through the house to his room, where I found him scattered across the bed.

The stuffed donkey was lying close to one of his arms.

Quickly, I kicked off my shoes, and laid down next to him, carefully pulling him into my arms. I buried my face in his hair and inhaled the strawberry scent.

“If it's Tul, I'll move,” he murmured.

I laughed quietly. “Does it feel like it's Tul?”

Gun turned in my arms, and his eyes widened.

“Thank goodness,” he breathed, before burying his face in my chest. “Now, shut up. I'm going to go back to sleep.”
