Part written by Jen Says Hi
I parked in the driveway and turned the key. Everything was silent for a moment. I couldn't even hear the crickets chirping through the night. Like they were all partaking in a moment of silence for the loss of a man tonight.
I sighed and stepped out of the car. The crickets continued.I was not looking forward to disposing the body. Usually when I killed people I just threw them in the basement for a while until I felt like burying them in the yard.
But I couldn't have those kids finding their dad dead in the basement. I had to bury him tonight.I opened the door. Nicholai was laying there faceup on the car floor. The blood from his wound had dried and stuck to his fur making a messy patch on his forehead.
I grabbed his tail and dragged him out on the ground. He stared straight up at the night sky. I know he had lost his life, but he looked so dead. Cold, lifeless. I creeped me out. I grabbed his tail again and started dragging him through the yard.I walked far out in the yard to a particular patch of trees. There were eight graves neatly aligned in two rows. A few Graves had grass growing on top. A bird house sat on a pole in a nearby tree.
I drug Nicholai to the side of the graves and tried to catch my breath. Guy was heavy. I would make a fat joke but muscle weighs more than fat, and he's ripped. I bet the only thing he uses those arms for is beating his kids though.I walked back to the house leaving him there staring at the sky.
Once I got to the house, I walked in the garage and grabbed a shovel off the shelf. It still had a bit of dirt from the last time I used it.
I walked out and headed towards the graveside.I was so exhausted. I could hardly keep my eyes open. Just dig a hole and throw that bitch in. I'll cover it tomorrow. Then go to sleep.
I plunged my shovel into the dirt. Didn't matter how deep the hole was at this point, I just needed him out of sight of the kids.
The cold air drifted through my fur making me shiver. I didn't stop to rest though, I needed to keep digging."You're a real jackass you know?" A deep voice said quietly. I jumped and frantically looked around to spot the person watching me. There was no one. No one exept Nicholai. The voice did sound a lot like his.
I shook my head and kept digging."Hey, I'm talking to you," the voice said again. I froze. That was absolutely Nicholai's voice. Was I dreaming? Was he alive?
I looked down at his cold lifeless body. He hadn't moved since I dragged him here.I stared at him shovel in hand.
I swear his eye rolled over to look at me.
I jumped and stumbled back dropping the shovel.
"What the fuck???" I said quietly.
I rubbed my eyes hard and looked back at Nicholai. His body was still lifeless and cold. He was staring up at the stars.
I sighed and picked up my shovel once more. I began to dig when the voice spoke again.
"Dipshit," the voice said.
I whipped my head towards Nicholai and he was staring right at me. I stared at his cold, dead eyes, then at the blood still dripping from his forehead. His mouth had closed and his head had turned.
"W-" I began to say but I stopped myself.
"Don't mind me Mr. Not like I can do anything," he said.
I relaxed a bit and stared at him. He stared right back.
Nicholai's eyes gestured towards the hole I was digging. Looks like he wanted me to keep going.I plunged my shovel in the dirt once more and kept my eye on his reanimated corpse as I dug.
"You ever feel bad?" He asked me.
"What?"
"Ya know. About killin' people."
Not really. Usually the people I kill I had no connections with and I didn't think twice before killing them.
Truth be told, Nicholai was just an average dude who I didn't give too shits about. I'd shoot guys like him for fun."No," I responded after pondering my answer.
Nicholai was silent for a moment.
"Damn. You really are cold."
I ignored him and kept digging every now and then glancing over to check on him.
A few minutes passed before either of us spoke.
I had dug a hole deep enough so I could stuff Nicholai in it. Time to just throw him in, toss some dirt on top and go inside. I'll finish burying the body in the morning.
"You can't keep doing this," Nicholai said as I grabbed his shirt collar.
"Fuck off."
"No need to get defensive I was just saying."
I glared at Nicholai as I held his head over the grave.
"I mean. You've got kids. Little kids. Is this the example you want for them?"
"Yenzo is their example."
"You are too."
I glared down at him. My vision was blurry and I felt like I was going to fall over.
I sighed deeply and looked down at Nicholai. He was talking to me, but he still looked so dead. It creeped me out.
"Just something to think about," he said to me.
I stared at his lifeless corpse.
Without much thought, I tossed his body in the grave and watched as he hit the ground.
"You take care of my kids Dark."
I rubbed my eyes again almost falling asleep. When I looked back down at the grave, Nicholai's face had returned to the dead corpse that he was.
As I gazed down at his lifeless body, I could feel a little sliver of guilt stab itself into my heart.I grabbed the shovel and threw some dirt on his body. I turned around and walked back to the house exhausted. This sleep deprivation was making me hallucinate. It's also the reason I got into this fucking mess in the first place.
I dragged the shovel back to the house. Corpse Nicholai's words still rung through my brain.
