The Sunday sun was shining brighter than ever. Its slight heat was cut off by the cool Wooddriff wind. It was just another Sunday morning for the people in Wooddriff. But for Duke, it was a perfect day for a new start.
"Here. " Cassie said, handing Duke a key attached to a small teddy bear key chain.
Duke took the key with his ice-cold fingers without making any contact with her humanly warm one. He opened the main door of her house, which led to the main hall. Multi home decors beautified the off-white walls. The light wooden floors, along with the furniture added to its beauty. He walked towards the couch in the middle.
"This is my Grams room. " Cassie said, pointing to a wooden door, towards her left.
"Is?" Duke thought in his mind. He knew she meant 'was', but didn't bother to correct her.
"It'll be locked. " Cassie added.
"Yeah, we already agreed on that yesterday. You can keep it locked or however, you want. Noo...problem." Duke said, looking towards the kitchen.
"Okay. There are three rooms on the top floor. One is mine. You can use the other two."
Duke, barely listening to her, walked towards the kitchen. Cassie followed him.
"Ha, there it is. " Duke said with relief.
"What?" Cassie asked.
Duke realized he said it a bit louder.
"Duh...the refrigerator."
Hearing this, Cassie furrowed her eyebrows.
"It's a really important thing for me." [after a pause] "More important than a personal room." Duke murmured.
"Did you say something?" Cassie enquired.
"I...I'm excited to pick my room." Duke said, turning to her.
"Then let's go upstairs. " Cassie said, walking towards the stairs.
"Did you make these?" Duke questioned, seeing beautiful home decor on the way up.
Cassie turned and said, "No. Grams made those."
"This room over here is mine, which will also be locked. Those two are yours." Cassie added, reaching the top floor.
"Mm muh."
Cassie showed him both the rooms. One room was bigger and spacious than the other. It had a king-size storage bed, a large closet space, a bathroom with a freestanding bathtub, and much more.
"I'll take this one. " Duke said, entering the small room.
Cassie was puzzled. "Did I hear correctly?" she thought for a moment.
"uh...you can use both the room. But this one as your personal room isn't a great idea. Because it's too small and the other one is much more comfortable." Cassie said in a lenient manner.
"Small rooms are easy to manage. " Duke said flatly.
"No...I mean it's...uh...The thing is it's too small and I want you to take the other room as your personal room. You can use this room as a mini-library or a workout room [she paused looking at his biceps, which were visible over the rim of his t-shirt] or...just not as a personal room." Cassie urged.
"Workout space sounds interesting. " Duke said, arching the eyebrow. "But I might've to move that bed out." He added, looking at the single bed at the corner.
"Oh sure. " Cassie said happily. "Downstairs, we have a small storeroom...for unwanted stuff. So if you could help me with another pair of arms." She added, holding up one end of the single wooden bed with all her strength.
