The woman traversed through Ecruteak's usually bustling streets, though they were now devoid of anyone else as night had fallen over the city once more. All people and their Pokémon were holed up in their homes ready for a good night's rest to start the next day. Not her, however, having slight insomnia she had chosen to take a walk instead, her Ampharos (nicknamed Sparky) beside her and illuminating their way by his glowing tail. She really did like the time to think to herself, especially after a full day of bothering the Suicune-obsessed Eusine.

The nighttime air was calm and cool, thankfully a far cry from the scorcher they had been having.

Her progress was halted, however, on the road leading out of Ecruteak as something licked her cheek rather suddenly. The woman gave a cry of shock and jerked back, staring up at the grinning Gastly.

“Amph!” Sparky snorted in irritation, having been prepared to jump in and help his trainer. Adrenaline pumped through his and his trainer’s hearts at the little scare they had just received.

“What are you doing here, Gastly?” She asks with a sigh, running a hand through her short brown hair - her usual hat in her other hand as she did so. She quickly replaced it as the ghost Pokémon snickered at her.

“It’s dangerous to go out on your own, Jessica.” A male’s voice sounds out behind her causing Jessica to spin around to spot the gym leader of Ecruteak City. He held a gentle smile on his face as he stepped beside the brunette. “Couldn’t sleep again?”

“Of course not! My getting a full’s night sleep just isn’t in life’s plans, Morty!” Jessica grinned back, hands shoved into her hoodie’s pockets as they both turned to take a trek through the woods surrounding the city. It was a common occurrence anymore for Morty to find Jessica wandering Ecruteak’s streets on a nighttime stroll and join her.

The two made light chit-chat as they walked through the woods, Sparky still illuminating their path and making shadows that much darker and menacing looking as they came into eyesight. This of course caused Jessica to scoot closer to Morty’s side several times during their walk, eyeing the dark patches as she did so and not noticing Morty’s amused look each time she did so.

The topic soon came to zombies, vampires, werewolves, ghosts and many other horror movie cliché monsters. Jessica being a horror movie lover had been the one to initiate the conversational topic and Morty didn’t mind going along with it. Ghosts were his forte after all.

“Really, there’s only so many werewolf-featured media anywhere and only a handful of those are any good!” nodded Jessica confident in her assessment. “Vampires are a little too popular if you ask me.”

“And why do you think that?”

“They’re overly powerful, overly idealized in looks, the list goes on and on. Werewolves need some lovin’, too! ... ... But nothing beats zombies!”

Morty chuckled, shaking his head slightly at the woman’s logic. She was quite the zombie-lover. “Yes, it would be nice to see some variety every once in awhile.”

Shuffling from a nearby bush disrupted the conversation as a barking filled the air. Jessica gasped and jumped closer to Morty, latching onto his arm and locking her gaze onto the bush. Gastly and Sparky took it upon themselves to bum rush whatever it was hiding in the bushes to reveal....

A Houndour which promptly turned tail and ran at the sigh of two Pokémon running at him, yelping once as he did so as Sparky gave him a small zap for startling his trainer. Morty and Jessica chuckled at what had just happened, hearts hammering from the small fright they had received.

“I’m not gonna lie.... I thought that was really a werewolf.” she chuckled, letting go of the gym leader’s arm.

“Don’t worry. Nothing bad will happen,” Morty assures, taking her hand in his. Jessica blushed lightly, though she smiled and they continued their usual walk hand in hand.
