Paul raised a brow at the woman who stared at his Drapion. The two had been traveling together for a few days, and he found she wasn’t as annoying as he had first thought – though there were still those moments he had to question why he allowed her to follow him on his Pokemon journey.

Drapion’s dark purple body was misshapen as if it was something that just shouldn’t exist, with its arms seemingly extending directly from or beneath its head, where a neck should be. The four legs were short and guaranteed little speed. The arms and tail were sectioned off in circular sections that connected together.

Ashley narrowed her eyes, shaking her head and removing the black skull-motif cap atop her head to fix her bangs in thought as she eyed Drapion. She finally shook her head slowly and replaced her hat atop her blond tresses. “It’s ugly…” she finally announced.

Drapion snorted, though its expression looked noticeably downcast at Ashley’s evaluation and Paul snorted, crossing his arms over his chest.

“Who cares what it looks like as long as it’s strong?”

Ashley scoffed this time around, gesturing to the little Chimchar that stood at her side happily. It had been her starter and she didn’t much care for its evolutions – so she had given the little fire monkey an everstone to keep. Some things are just better the way they are, after all. “I do!”

“Tch. It’d be stronger if you let it evolve.” Paul replied scathingly, eyeing Chimchar with a hint of disgust over the fact that it had not evolved. Chimchar began to chatter angrily at this.

“Chimchar is strong enough as is! We don’t need to evolve to beat up larger opponents!”

“Chim!”

“Your mentality on Pokemon is like saying that if you’re an ugly trainer than you’re not a good one.”

“That’s not what I’m saying, you jerk-face!”

“Shallow.” He didn’t let it show, but he was actually enjoying getting the woman fired up and watching her stomp the ground childishly at his accusations.

“Then let’s have a battle and prove which one is right!”

“Hmph, I thought you’d never ask.” Drapion moved beside its trainer, eager to prove itself to the woman as Chimchar hopped out into the space allotted for their battle.

“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.”
