A/N: This chapter is really short (only around 1000 words) but I thought I was nessecary to begin the story!
Without further adieu I present to you
"The beginning (of the end)
========================================================
"He loved her, and she loved him" "right up until they didn't"
Today was September 1st. It was the first day of their 6th year, although classes didn't actually start until tomorrow.
Hermione was seated in the same compartment Ron, Harry and herself had been sitting in together since the train ride back home at the end of 1th year.
She stared down at her knee, her fingers picking at the at a loose thread in her jeans, she kept picking and pulling at it until became fully unraveled. She held the thin string up in front of her face to examine it.
It was a habit she had, looking too closely at things. Picking on irrelevant details. She had been doing it since she was a child. Examining the way her mum boiled the kettle, she would watch the way people walked, think about every little thing that was said.
She looked at the world too closely. It made things that shouldn't scare her become her biggest fears.
It was what caused her to have night terrors and be nervous all the time.
And right now Hermione was infact nervous, but for a good reason. She was a smart witch, smart enough to know this year wasn't going a good one, and the thought of having a a year even remotely similar to last year was enough to make her stomach turn.
So much stuff happened in their 5th year Dumbledore's army, Voldemort returning, the battle at the ministry, Dolores Umbridge, and Draco Malfoy ratting them out.
There were just too many loose ends-
and loose ends made her nervous
She had no way knowing what this year held.
=========================================================
"Hermione" "Hermione" Harry murmured to her.
She must have fallen asleep at one point or another because this is how she woke up, Ron elbowing her ribcage and Harry loudly whispering to her, she looked up to see the trolly lady with a disapproving glare she began telling her how they were nearly at Hogwarts and how she needed to get her robes on.
Last year she would have been the one telling the boys to wake up while the angry witch stood there, she had been a perfect student in every way possible up until the end of last year. She had almost always been first in her classes every year.
Almost.
The only person she had ever been second too was Draco Malfoy. But with everything happening with the dark lord, getting better marks than Draco was hardly a priority.
"Hermione" The lady snapped at her. She had never heard her raise her voice before but it was clear to Hermione that she had been waiting for her to wake up for a while
"Sorry miss, I'll go get changed now" she mumbled as she snapped out of her daydream
She stood up and reached for her suitcase, opening it just enough to retrieve the robes that where folded neatly at the top.
She slid open the compartment door and stepped out into the hallway.
She turned to walk towards the bathroom completely in indulged thought, she was thinking about Draco Malfoy and how he was a large contributing factor to a lot of her problems, when she suddenly walked straight into someone.
She nearly fell flat on her face but a mans rugged hand caught her arm before she reached the floor. She looked up to apologize to whoever she had just walked into, when she realized it had been Draco Malfoy- the source of yet another problem.
He was significantly more handsome than the last time she had seen him. His face structure was much more prudent than before. Any trace of the boyish look he had held in previous years was gone. He was cold, harsh now. He was also noticeably more toned since last year,
Her eyes wandered, noticing how his fitted shirt showed off the outline of his abs.
She thought she could make out the thin outline of a six pack.
"Is something interesting to you granger" She felt her face flush.
She knew what it looked like she had been staring at.
"In your dreams" She said, all the while trying to push past him but his body blocked the way.
"Every night" Her stunned expression seemed to be the amusement enough for him. He chuckled lightly and moved to the side so there was room for her to walk past down the thin path.
===========================================================
Hermione left the cramped bathroom and began back down the hallway to where her friends were sitting, now in her deep red Gryffindor robes.
She was still feeling extremely flustered from what happened with Malfoy only a few minutes ago. There was no way that he had said that to her.
Was he joking?
Of course he was joking, it was Draco Malfoy.
He was the one who had been endlessly tormenting her since the first year, he had called her a mud-blood.
But was he being serious when he said he would dream about her, the thought slightly aroused her.
She immediately shook the notion from her head.
"Its just you overthinking again, he meant nothing by it" the voice in her head spoke to her, she decided to listen.
Of course that what had happened, she had done it again.
Overthought a simple remark and made mountains out of mole hills.
She approached the compartment door once again she slid in to retake the seat she had been sitting in previously
Harry was no longer in there.
"Wheres Harry" she she questioned as she settled down into her cushiony seat chair.
"He went to the loo- blimey Hermione are you okay you've gone bright red"
His remark took her by surprise. She thought that she had hidden and trace of emotion about what happened. She felt her cheeks flush an even brighter crimson red.
She opened her mouth as though to begin speaking in response to what Ron had said, but in reality she had no idea what was going to come out.
Luck for her at that exact moment the train jolted forward before slowing down and finally rolling to a complete stop, signaling they had arrived
Hermione silently thanked merlin for that.
They grabbed their belongings and headed off the train. She was slightly worried about the fact Harry hadn't rejoined them but Ron assured her that it was because he had already gotten onto the platform.
They began making their way down the crowded dark trail to get to the thestrals carriages, they threw their luggage into the back and boarded up, they were with Neville, Seamus and a girl Hermione recognized to be Romilda Vane. She shot them all a thin forced smile.
Once everyone was seated the carts immediately started moving to take them to the place they knew so well.
A/N: What do you guys think of the first chapter? Ive never really written anything before but though this would be a fun idea. Hopefully my writing will improve as the story progresses. I know nothing really happens in this chapter but thought it was necessary. I know this chapters super short (its only around 1000 words) but I will try to make the next ones longer :)
Also please don't say anything mean because im sensitive af skjhsdj
Comment any ideas you have here!
