Malik stood behind the desk in the Assassin Bureau, his hand resting atop the large map he had been working on when Altaїr had tumbled into the bureau with a strange request. Once again it seemed like the arrogant man was not above breaking the rules of the Brotherhood. While many only knew of the three tenets of the Creed, there were still several fewer known rules, like the one Altaїr had asked Malik to break now.

His gaze drifted to the map as he mused. Al Mualim had been acting stranger than usual lately since he had obtained the Apple. Did it have something to do with the change in their master? Malik wasn’t sure, but he couldn’t rule it out.

And if it was responsible for the change in their master he would technically be at fault for having brought the Apple to him and away from the Templars. He sighed, running his hand over the stubble on his chin, lifting his gaze away from the map of Jerusalem.

Malik had always been one to go by the book, no matter what. Rules were in place to keep their brothers safe and to keep the more rowdy Assassins (like Altaїr) in line. But now, he wasn’t so sure. He had witnessed all through his life Altaїr breaking rules and rarely getting reprimanded for it. He had even lost his brother Kadar due to Altaїr’s reckless abandon and all Al Mualim demanded was for the man to be demoted in rank and had even given him a chance to gain those ranks back.

Thinking back on it, that seemed to lenient. Malik was sure if it had been anyone else he would have been sentenced to death for denying all the tenets of the Creed and putting the entire Brotherhood in danger.

Another deep sigh racked his frame and a determined expression covered the man’s features as he stood straighter. He moved back from around the counter, to go locate his men around Jerusalem. Malik would, for the first time, go against the book. He would lead them to Masyaf and check on Al Mualim as Altaїr had requested while the man went chasing down Robert de Sable at the Arsuf Plains.

“Perhaps going by the book is not always the best path…” he mused allowed as he struggled up and out of the bureau with his one arm.
