(Flash Back)
The inky black sky stretched out above them, obscured only by a line of trees on the horizon line. The stars twinkled and danced above them. A strange scene disrupted this near perfect setting. A wolf, a dog and a stag. If you looked close enough, you might have been able to make out the silhouette of a rat, but this late at night, you'd have no chance.
Suddenly, a howl erupted from deep within the woods. The wolf took off, the dog, stag and rat chasing after it, but they had no hope. The wolf, with its long legs and great stamina was much faster than they were. The wolf smelt blood. Blood.. The wolf was hungry. Very hungry. It came to an abrupt halt, causing the stag and the dog to go crashing into one another. The rat probably did too, but as that can't be seen, there is no way to tell. The wolf was angry now. He went chasing again, through the forest, and into a clearing, only to find another wolf, each as dominant and proud as the other. The wolf swiped at him, he swiped back. Before the dog nor the stag (it was unlikely that the rat would help much here, like that friend we all have, not much help, just the cheerleader, cheering us all on at what is an impossible task) could intervene, the two wolves, one silver, the other black, were engaged in an all out fight. The silver wolf scratched at the black, and the black scratched back. The second wolf quickly proved to be much stronger than the first, and left the first lying, bleeding on the floor, with a deep gash in his abdomen. Terrified, the dog and the stag (and again, presumably the rat) attempted to do something (what it was is unclear, but one things for sure, it wasn't very helpful.) After many unsuccessful attempts at whatever it was they were doing, they just sat and prayed for the sun to rise.
As the sun rose over the tips of the trees, the bloodied wolf transformed into an equally bloodied and shaken man. Instantly, the stag, dog and rat (who was much more visible this time, due to being sat on the head of the dog) transformed back into their human forms. Sirius crouched over the shaken man.
"Moons, moony darling, open your eyes for me." The man whimpered, much like a dog. "I know. I know it hurts but-"
"Pads we need to get him to St Mungo's. He's losing too much blood." James said.
"Nah, St Mungo's has been taken by the Death Eaters." Peter replied. When both men looked at him quizzically, he continued "What! Haven't you heard? It was in the Prophet yesterday morning. Dumbledore's encouraging people to go to Madam Pomfrey now instead. Much safer."
"Well what the fuck are we waiting for then!? Let's go!" Sirius got to his feet shaking. He was as pale as the clouds in the sky above them. The sun had now risen almost fully. "I don't think I can lift him."
"Probably, because you wore those stupid shoes. Would've been much more helpful if you had just worn shoes you can walk in!" Pete said. Sirius ignored him.
" Can we apparate with him in this state?" Another groan came from the man lying on the floor. Sirius immediately crouched down beside him. "Moony darling, we are going to apparate you to Madam Pomfrey. Ok?!" He groaned and grimaced in response. Sirius stood up once more. James put a hand on his shoulder and said
"He's gonna be okay. You know that, right?" Sirius nodded. "Right then. Pete, you ready? 3, 2, 1..." The strange group disappeared with a crack. They appeared outside of the Hogwarts school gates. They hurried up to the hospital wing, and almost throw themselves through the door.
"Madam Pomfrey! Madam Pomfrey!" They called.
"Yes! Yes I'm here, no need to shout! I'm not deaf ye-..." she trailed to a halt "Oh my."
"Umm, right basically, so, ummm, yeah." Peter said lamely. Sirius was in tears at this point, his mascara and eyeliner running black tear tracks down his face. James reached out and put a hand on Sirius' shoulder, whilst Madam Pomfrey was running all sorts of diagnostic checks on Remus.
"Right then. I'm going to have to ask you boys to leave." She said to them firmly.
"What! You can't!" Shouted Peter, but James was too busy focusing on Sirius to know what Madam Pomfrey had just said. It looked like Sirius' legs had finally given up, and collapsed underneath him.
"Hey Sirius, Sirius mate, it'll be okay. Alright, now Madam Pomfrey says we have to go, but she'll send us a Patronus when we can come back, alright?" The two boys heaved Sirius off the floor, and flooed back to James' house, where Lily was anxiously waiting for them.
"What happened? Where's Remus? Whose blood is that?" She asked frantically.
"Remus is hurt, Lil."
