"I could see it on your face it was rough, left a bad taste on your tongue."

The smell of fresh parchment and cold air swirl around the room. The time now 8:15 am. As of right now, Jo is still asleep. Her long eyelashes flutter every now and then, a small detail Draco has took notice of in the past hour while watching her.
He's has spent this past hour thinking. Thinking about Jo and his current situation. Chills are sent down his spine, imagining of his future. After all, he was born into impending doom, being a Malfoy and all.
But mostly, he's been thinking about her. His feelings for her are no secret. However, he can feel himself slowly falling for her, and he can't stop it. Something about Jo was intoxicating. Maybe it was how her nose scrunches every now and then when she's asleep. How her breathing gives him hope, a feeling of safety. Or maybe it's the idea of being loved by someone. Being able to experience 'the most powerful drug'. Who knows. But Draco was in a state of euphoria he had never experienced before, he doesn't want to come down from this high. The drug being her.
Jo beings to stir, causing Draco's eyes to widen, now afraid he woke her up. She leans into his chest, snuggling close to him, as if he would leave her at any moment. Little did she know.
-
Jo wakes up to a cold and abandoned bed, no Draco in sight. The unfriendly feeling of sadness washes over her. How could she have actually thought he would stay.
Scoffing to herself, she hears the door creak. A blonde-haired boy walks through the door. His eyes growing seeing that she is awake. He had hoped to get back before she awoke, not wanting to disappoint her. His fear has now become a reality, seeing that she is, in fact, awake and aware.
"Where did you go?" she asks, not making eye contact. Instead, she is fixing up her bed, fed up with Draco's actions.
He stutters, trying to come up with a good excuse. "I had to talk to Enzo," he lies. Jo nods, rolling her eyes, not believing a single word coming out of his mouth. Draco sighs knowing he was caught in a lie, this is not going to be good for him.
Out of nowhere, Jo states, "Why do you feel the need to lie?" He doesn't answer. "This was a mistake." She mumbles to herself.
Draco's mouth goes dry at her words, knowing he can't tell her what he is really up to. It's for her own safety. He doesn't have an answer for her, he remains silent.
He watches Jo finish tidying up her bed, gathering up supplies for a shower. The dormitories don't have personal bathrooms. He can tell she's frustrated, annoyed. Without another word, she leaves Draco alone in her dorm.
-
Jo comes back into her room, her body wrapped in a towel, her damp auburn hair resting on her shoulders. Draco admires her wet olive skin shining in the sunlight, he truly found her mesmerizing.
"You're still here." She says coldly.
He sighs, "I am."
Silence.
Again.
He could feel the tension in the room rising. A cloud of awkwardness settling between the two.
Jo begins getting ready as if he isn't in the room. She lets her towel drop. Draco takes her in, the image in front of him bringing about fantasies swirling in his imagination.
He gets up from her bed, walking over to her, "You're lovely." He places a soft kiss on her neck, hearing a sigh come from Jo at his touch.
"Please," she says, her volume barely a whisper. "Just don't." She pushes his hands off her hips, walking away from him, to her dresser.
"Did I do something?" No answer. "Just talk to me, Granger," Draco pleads.
Jo snaps, "Talk to you? You want me to talk to you? I'm not the one keeping secrets, Malfoy." She takes a deep breath, trying to release some of the anger building up in her body.
Jo puts on her bra and underwear, ignoring Draco's stare through the mirror.
"I'm sorry," he murmured.
"Sorry isn't going to cut it, Draco." She huffed, "If you want whatever we have to work, you have to talk to me. Keeping secrets won't do you any good." She put her hair up in a ponytail, tightening it.
He doesn't answer so she sighs, "Like I said, this was a mistake." She takes another look at herself in the mirror before sitting down on her bed.
"A mistake, huh?" He chuckles to himself, looking down at his feet. "Maybe you should go shag Mclaggen then," He spits coldly, looking back up.
She turns her head to look at him when those words leave his mouth, "You dick." She strides over to him, glaring, "How dare you say that."
Draco looks right back into her brown eyes. "Did I hit a nerve?" He pushes.
Without warning, Jo raises her hand to slap him. Her hand collides with his cheek, leaving a red mark behind. "Don't ever speak to me again."
"I-" He stops himself. He looks down at his feet, ashamed of himself.
She walks back over to her bed, sitting down. Jo is now fully dressed, pulling up her knee high socks and slipping on her shoes. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go to class." Without another word, she leaves him again, alone. Like always.
-
Draco didn't go to class today, school being the least of his worries at the moment. The only thing on his mind was completing his task. He needed to get it done, to keep her safe, alive.
The room of requirement appears in front of him, allowing him to walk inside. He needed to do his task quickly, for him. Draco didn't want to do his dirty work, but he had no choice. He could feel his soul slowly chipping away with each passing day. That's why Jo meant so much to him, she was slowly putting him back together. Without her, he was bound to be like his father.
-
The dining hall is buzzing with noise. With it being lunch time every student was piled into one room, their energy flying off the walls. Jo is seated at a back table with Enzo. She hasn't talked to him in a while, being with Draco.
Enzo was his normal self during lunch. Cracking jokes and telling Jo about the rumors he's heard flying around the school. However, she had noticed he became more touchy. It's not like she cared, she wasn't uncomfortable. It was just weird how the two boys never paid special attention to her before, but then suddenly do at the same time.
Enzo took her mind off of Draco. It's moments like these she truly cherishes. Being able to sit and have lunch with a friend, no worries.
The volume in the room slowly began to decline as students began to trickle out to class. Now there were only a few dozen pupils left in the room.
Jo's thankful for the sound dying down. She can feel a headache coming on, her thoughts were clouded with Draco. Why he was keeping secrets. Why he was being distant. It made no sense to her. How a boy could be so on and off about his feelings.
From a distance, she can see Harry, Ron, and Hermione chatting at another table. Smiles on their faces. She always wonders what would have happened if she was sorted with her sister. Maybe she would have ended up with Harry, the good guy. Maybe she would still be close with her sister. Maybe she would be happier. But then again, she would have never met Draco. Or Lila. Or Enzo. Even Blaise.
