I'm sorry, what did he say? Virgil Millers? that's me. well, crap.

This clicks in a little late. I look up at the stage. I could feel everyone in the district, no, scratch that, everyone in Panam, staring daggers into me. My heart stops and my throat closes off. I started to panic. I freeze in place. no no no no no nO NO NO NO! Flashbacks of all the deaths from the previous hunger games go through my head. The speaker calls my name again.

"VIRGIL MILLERS!"

I snap out of my mini panic attack and stand up. I walk up to the stage and beg for something to murder me right then and there. I stand next to the presenter, seeing my mother standing up from the crowd.

"VIRGIL NO!!" She begins to cry and attempt to run the stage, but the peacekeepers stop her. I give her a sad smile as the peacekeepers drag her back to her seat, sobbing. The presenter waits until the crowd had calmed down and pulls another name from the opposite-of-the-lottery.

"ROMAN EVANS!"

Cue the self-involved moron. He walks up to the stage and stands next to me. He is wearing a Red T-Shirt and White sports jacket with a red stripe down the sides. He is also donning blue jeans and red sneakers. He was prepared for this. I don't think he expected to have me as a partner, as he looks at me with disdain. We shake hands and then the Peacekeeper comes to take us away.

I was so not prepared for this.

(Time Skip brought to you by Word Association Games.)

I stand in the train station, surrounded by video cameras. I have had nightmares about being in this position. I tug my hood so that it would hide my face. Like it would make any difference. I begin to imagine how I would die in the arena.

"VIRGIL!"

I am snapped out of my thoughts when I hear my mother calling me. She is pushing through the crowds of people to hug me. She is shaking and crying into my shoulder. "Ho-how dare they? sniff - I mean, how dare they!" I just stay quiet as she keeps crying. I pat her back, and this makes her sob more. "I can't lose you too..." When she finally calms down enough to speak, she let go of me, but her hands were still on my shoulders. one of them now soaked with tears. She reaches into her pocket and pulls out a little charm. I take a closer look. It's a storm cloud. It looks like it was made of gemstones. it looked expensive. I look at my mother.

"I was going to give it to you on your birthday, but then..." she is shaking a lot. "Please take it as a token." I can't say no. I close my fingers around the gem stormcloud and put it into my pocket. The train is almost ready to leave for the capital. I give her one last hug and hop onto the train. I don't even notice that it has started moving until I look out the window and see the district 1 train station move away. I can't look back. not anymore. I walk into a room marked Millers. I see luxuries that are closed off to us in District 1. Stuff not even the richest person in District 1 could afford. There's a note on the bed.

Meet Me in the Food Car. -Copper

Who was this Copper and why was he ordering me around? And then I remember. Copper was the last winner of the Hunger Games. He had a partner, Opal, but she died later after winning the games. If your wondering, They changed the rules of the games. If your partner is still alive, the two of you could win together. Copper won because he relied on surprise and attack tactics. He never wanted anything to do with the games, so no one has ever seen him. I walked over to the car marked Food. I took a deep breath and opened the door, to see Roman Evans. I looked at him. He looked at me. Red eyes, quite easy to get lost in. He was playing with some sort of ring. must be his token. His hair was combed perfectly. I expect that his teeth were a perfect shade of white. He looked back at his ring. I walked and sat next to him. I ordered a hot drink. something they called hot chocolate.

A man walked in, his hair was a silver-grey and he had wrinkles. Ether the self-isolating had aged him or the PTSD from the games. Either way, he looked old and in great shape. He was wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt and pants. his boots were also black. you would think he was in mourning. The only true color was his eyes, and when I saw them, I figured out why they called him Copper. The irises were the shade of tinted copper, very much alive and beautiful.

"So you two are Virgil and Roman." He asked. We both nodded. "Hmm, not talkative. I don't blame ya. After all, the two of you were sent to death by your own community." He walked to the T.V screen and turned it on. "Watch the Tributes carefully."

District 2, Masonry and Defences, brought out a guy, dressed in black and green. He had a handlebar mustache and green emerald eyes that looked psychotic. His name was Remus Slate. In all honesty, he looked like a rat. I didn't catch the female.

District 3, Technology, brought out a male, dressed in a black dress shirt and navy tie. he had glasses and his hair was slicked back. His eyes were a deep, stormy navy blue. A blue that could cloud up if he got angry. His name was Logan Byte. The Female was a girl dressed in brown steampunk. She had brownish/goldish goggles on her head. Her eyes were brown that looked like metal. Her hair was out and down to her back. Her name was Lizzy Byte. She must have been related to Logan. I didn't see the resemblance. Logan looked serious and Lizzy looked like she couldn't sit still.

District 5, Power, had a guy whose face was half-snake. I could see the green scales. He was dressed in black and yellow and like he has dressed in the black plague. The none snake eye was brown. the snake eye was an intoxicating yellow. the pupil of the eye was black and slit, like a lizard. His name was Janus Watt. I didn't like him from the start. It was that lizard eye that looked like it could see right through your soul. it was unsettling. I didn't catch the female, I was too busy trying to avoid Janus's eyes like he could see me through the screen somehow.

District 8, Textiles, was a guy in a T-Shirt and jeans. actually really casual for the Reaping. His eyes were brown. His name was Thomas Sanders. Strange name for someone coming from the Textiles District. His partner was a person who had an orange beanie hiding their hair. They had a black T-shirt and a grey zip-up hoodie on. They had the beginnings of a mustache. Their eyes were a shade of light brown. Their name was Joan Stokes. Yet another strange district 8 name.

District 10, Livestock, was a guy in a cyan (Sorry, my Among Us vocab is coming out) T-shirt walked up. He had glasses and a grey hoodie with the sleeves tied around his neck loosely. His eyes were light blue. They looked kind. His name was Patton Cooper. He gave a closed-eyed smile and waved to the crowd. He's definitely going to be a favorite.

After all the reapings were over, Copper turned off the T.V. "We're here." Roman ran got up and ran to the nearest window. I looked out the one I was sitting next to. I have to say, the Capitol was beautiful. Tall buildings and large screens, showing different advertisements for different things. It was colorful. I would never wear the colors myself, but it was incredible. The train was coming to the Capitol station. I watched as the train came to a stop.
