your favourite thing about staying at the shelby house was playing about in the field next to it. usually with finn shelby. he was the youngest of the shelby brothers and he was also 7 months older than you, which made you too become very close. sometimes, you'd play the odd game of tag with john or arthur, but they were mostly always doing work.
you stayed over a lot at the shelby house because your mum was out on a business trips. your mum had to go on a lot of business trips but because she used to be very close with arthur when they were younger, you would go stay with him in the big house in small heath, birmingham.
one time when you were staying with the family for a couple of weeks, you and finn were playing in the field, next to the house. you were playing some sort of running game like tag and you tripped over this weird thing in the mud; it looked unfamiliar, but there was a red flashing light on it. you genuinely had no idea what it was.
'finn!' you called out to him. 'what's this in the ground?'
he ran over to you and this 'thing' in the mud.
'y/n that's a grenade! we need to run'
he grabbed your hand and pulled you away from it and started running. you were so confused, you didn't really know what a bomb was, but obviously finn did because his big brothers were involved with all of that stuff. you didn't know why you were running but you trusted finn with your whole life, so you did decide to follow him. and your so damn glad you did, because the next thing you know, a deafening explosion happened behind you. the explosion had hit you and finn the slightest bit and you both stumbled forward and you were knocked unconscious because of the fall. finn immediately ran over to you to check if you were okay, he didn't know what he would do if he lost you.'y/n wake up please. i cant lose you, please'
tears started to fall down his face; you hated when he cried, it broke your heart. your eyes started to flutter open and a massive smile appeared on his face. he hugged you tightly, he didn't want to let you go.
'y/n i thought i lost you. i'm so sorry' he was still crying.
'finn, why are you sorry?! i'm so glad you got me away. you saved me.'from then on, finn did everything he possibly could to keep you safe. he took you everywhere and you were barely ever seen without him. although, you weren't complaining ;))
you still both have flashbacks of the explosion. some nights you wouldn't be able to sleep and you'd hear it in the distance. it wasn't real, but your mind made you think it was. you'd go into finns room and ask if he was still awake. he usually was so you'd go in and cuddle with him whilst he played with you hair until you both fell asleep. the boy made you feel safe. you always felt protected when you were with him.
