"Jayy? Has Ashley come home yet?" I asked from the kitchen.
He got up from the couch and looked out the window, only to shake his head and pull away from the curtain. I sighed and rubbed my temples. She knows that Jayy and I absolutely HATE her being out late, especially if she's all by herself. I mean, I know she's really close to being 18 years of age, but I can't help worrying... Come on, she's Jayy and I's little girl, how do you expect us to react?
"Should we call Candy? Ash was at her house all day today, maybe she crashed over there?" Jayy suggested as he pulled out his phone.
I nodded and rested my head on his shoulder as he dialed her number and put her on speaker-phone. We sat there, anxiously waiting for her to pick up, she finally answered the 4th time the phone rang.
"Hello?" She yawned through the phone.
Jayy bit his lip softly. "Hey, Candy... It's Jayy, i'm so sorry for waking you up..."
"No no, it's fine... What do you need?"
"Is Ashley over there with you? Did she fall asleep or something?" I quickly asked.
There was a short pause before she finally spoke again. "Um... No, she left here right before it got dark... Let's see... It was about 8:30 and it's 1:00 now...." She started to trail off. "But, why do you ask..?"
My eyes widened and I quickly looked up at Jayy, he blinked and started to shake. "She hasn't come home... Thank you Candy..." He said softly and started to hang up.
"WAIT! I'm coming over to help you look-"
Her call was dropped by another incoming call. I tilted my head and looked at the number, quickly realizing it was Ashley. Jayy frantically hit the answer button and brought it closer to our ears.
"Ashley!! Hello?? Where are you???" Jayy and I both asked.
"D-Dad.. H-H...." She was about to say something when a loud slapping noise caused her to whimper and go quiet.
Jayy growled and tightened his grip on his phone. "Ashley! Who's there?? Talk to me baby...."
I could hear his voice start to go soft and become shaky.. How could I blame him, both of us are so scared.. Someone is hurting our daughter and we have no idea where she is and we have no way of helping her.
"Listen... Come down on West Broadway and turn onto Front Street, there's one alley... You'll find your precious little girl there..." The mysterious man on the other end instructed, sarcastically saying the closing sentence before hanging up.
As soon as the call was dropped, both of us quickly jumped up and ran out to the car. We practically flew out of our driveway and had made it to the alley in no more then 20 minutes. I quickly turned down the alleyway and killed the engine before jumping out of the car and switching on the flashlight that Jayy grabbed from the house before we left. I reached out and took a hold Jayy's hand before continuing down the alley.
"Ashley?" I quietly called out, looking around.
"Baby-girl... It's us, no one is here to hurt you." Jayy said softly before pulling me to a quick stop.
I looked up at him then down to the ground to see a small pool of dark red liquid. My eyes widened as I shone the flashlight toward a small, dark mass laying, motionless, on the ground. I dropped the flashlight and Jayy and I ran forward. Jayy fell to his knees then pulled the mass into his lap. "Ashley, baby... Please open your eyes...." He said softly, brushing her hair away from her bloody face.
As he was comforting her, I quickly called 9-1-1 and told them where we were located before quickly shoving my phone back into my pocket and rushing back over to Jayy's side. I looked down at Ashley and gently touched her cheek.
"D-Dad...?" She whispered, looking up at us.
Her normally bright blue eyes looked dull and grey. Her face and exposed skin were covered in bad bruises and terrible gashes. Her nose looked broken, and it was still dripping blood... She just looked so lifeless, yet she forced herself to smile when she saw us.
"Yes baby girl? Help is on the way." I said softly.
She smiled and nuzzled close to Jayy and I.
"I-I'm so tired... Everything h-hurts.." She whimpered, tears shimmering in her eyes.
"I know it does, but everything will feel better soon OK... Just stay awake... Please stay awake." Jayy and I begged.
She pouted softly then shook her head. "I-I love you t-two... So much...." She started.
"We love you too..." Both of us replied, getting teary eyed.
"Pl-Please sing for me.... B-Believe." She said, smiling softly.
I looked down at her and gently wiped my eyes. I remember her, Jayy, and I singing that song all the time... That song holds so many memories, and it was her all time favorite... She loves it so much, I occasionally hear her humming it in her sleep or singing it in the shower... I lightly kissed her forehead and nodded then I looked at Jayy. He bit his lip and kissed her forehead too before clearing his throat.
We watched her as we sang, she just looked up at us with the beautiful smile of hers. But I noticed that her eyes started to get droopy and her smile was slowly fading. Jayy and I started choking up but we continued singing.
"Believe in me, Just keep your faith and believe in all that you make
Believe in me, My love is not a gamble; You can count on me
Believe in me, No lies, Just love, I will be pure just like the sun
Believe in me, When you are down I will lift you up from the ground
Believe in me, When I'm gone..."
"We all fall down, but we'll pick you up."
We all fall down, but we'll pick you up."
We started to hear all kinds of sirens in the distance, but we could tell that they were very far away... But they're going to make it in time to help her, I know they will.... They have to... I sighed and started shaking as I started the part where I'm suppose to speak... As I did, I could faintly hear Ashley whisper to herself. "I am not afraid of death... This'll be my eternal infinity..."
I looked at Jayy, who had tears streaming down his face.
"Believe in me, When I'm gone..."
"We all fall down, but we'll pick you up
We all fall down, but we'll pick you up."
I took a hold of Jayy's hand and cried softly into his shoulder as Ashley's eyes closed completely.
"We love you." We both said before breaking down...
As soon as we finished, the ambulance and policemen arrived. When we looked down again, we say that even though Ashley's eyes were closed, her smile didn't. Jayy and I quickly kissed her again before the EMT's took her from up and raced to the hospital. A few minutes passed before I forced myself to stand up with Jayy and walk back to our car, but as soon as we closed the doors, we held on tightly to each other and broke down again... Our little girl may be gone forever, and we didn't do anything to help her.... Nothing at all....

(P.S. : I'm crying so much right now, it's not even funny >.<)
