(Catlyn's POV)

I opened my eyes and instantly groaned as the blinding sun shined down into them. I rolled over and closed my eyes all while debating whether to be lazy or to get up.

5 minutes later, I sighed and sat up, looking around at the forest that I had been calling home for the past, what, 7 years or so.

Using all my willpower, I made myself stand up and walk toward the small lake on the left of my so-called bed, and dived straight in.

I did my usual morning routine; changed into my 'clean' clothes, and packed up my things (It's not like I had a lot of things).

I looked around and smirked as I spotted a fallen tree. "Perfect" I murmured. And then I ran. I ran and ran, as fast as humanly possible, and leaped over the tree.

Adrenaline was rushed through my veins. The jump was exhilarating. The wind was in my hair and I felt something most people don't.

I felt free.

Mid-leap, I shifted. I felt my hands growing longer and the ears that popped out on my head. Fur started growing, a snout was forming, and by the time I landed, I was no longer human.

I was a wolf.

I kept running, the sound of my paws hitting the forest ground was soon in time with my heartbeat. I kept running, until... I froze.

I smelt something, something that shouldn't be in the forest. I felt my ears perk up, my eyes scanning my surroundings quicker than lightning.

I slowly walked towards the opening in the trees and cautiously sniffed the air. The scent was getting stronger.

Crouching low, I stayed silent for a moment before jumping up as high as I could and snatching the unknown animal from the air.

I felt myself change back to my human form and when I landed, I had a fluffy bundle of brown feathers in my hands. I sniffed the animal eagerly, happy to have caught breakfast this easily, early in the morning.

But before I could do anything, my ears perked up as I heard footsteps behind me. Within seconds, I was already in a fighting stance, gripping the owl to insure I didn't lose it.

Before me stood a peculiar man that reminded me terribly of Santa Claus. He was quite tall, had a long, long white beard, half moon spectacles and electric blue eyes.

This unusual man put his hands together and started to clap.

"Spectacular catch my dear." His blue eyes twinkling behind his spectacles. "But most unfortunately, I'm afraid this owl isn't food and belongs to me."

I cocked one of my eyebrows up but otherwise didn't move. "So I can't eat it?" Even when I haven't used my voice or had a proper conversation in years, my voice still sounded smooth and quite melodic.

The strange man simply nodded, gesturing to let it go. I sighed but did as I was told. The owl quickly flew out of my grasp, glaring at me in the process.

It dropped something into my empty hands, and flew off instantly to Merlin knows where. I glanced down at the letter in my hands and frowned. Who would send me a letter?

" I would my dear, because I want to invite you to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry. I am Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore, headmaster of Hogwarts." The man, er, Dumbledore answered.

"You can read minds? Will I be able to learn how to do that if I go to Hogwarts?" I questioned, eagerly, weighing the pros and cons of the situation.

"If you have enough talent then yes, I would be delighted to teach you. Well, what do you say?"

I thought about it for a while. Going to Hogwarts would mean leaving the forest, my home, was I really ready for change?

I looked back into the forest and all the memories I had while living there. It wasn't a normal forest, it was a magical one, one with unicorns, centaurs and even werewolves and vampires.

The forest itself seemed to be glistening with magic on every branch and leaf, the treetops filled with monkeys and birds while the forest floor had foxes and I had even seen dragons before.

I knew every tree and path, the animals were mostly all my friends, how can I leave? I faced Dumbledore and looked him in the eyes.

"I'll go. But only if I'm allowed to come back." I said firmly.

Dumbledore simply smiled and nodded and stuck his hand out. Sighing, I walked towards him, took one last look at the forest, before Dumbledore apparated.
