The old grandfather clock in Theo's study struck precisely at two in the afternoon, its chimes threatening to swallow the entire room whole as it usually did but not quite so this time, for the master of the mansion was waiting, impatiently, for a different sound.
It came in the form of a distinct pop, followed by the shadow of the Malfoy heir materialising by his doorframe.
"Zabini again?" It was a question but phrased more into a factual sentence. Theo simply nodded in affirmation, as his wand moved to fill two glasses with Firewhiskey.
"Daphne is-" He winced, the liquid not even touched yet. "-was the love of his sodding life."
Draco stared into his glass, not moving from the entry that spoke of his uneasiness.
"If he's not careful, their reunion might be much sooner than anticipated."
A soft scoff escaped the other man's lips. "What makes you think that isn't already his grand plan in the works?"
A silence fell onto the both of them. Their relationship prior to the war had already been tenuous at best. Draco Malfoy preferring lackeys over real companions being the primary culprit, but Theodore Nott had also always kept to himself. Afraid to take up space. Afraid to draw attention.
And the only connection they have almost died last night.
The scorching midday sun outside had been reduced to a dull shade of yellow trying in vain to pierce through the curtains that draped the floor to ceiling windows of the room.
"Did you know about the Gryffindor?"
Theo crossed over to his desk, pulled out a piece of parchment from one of the drawers and laid it flat against the surface. Draco moved to the chairs in front so he could see.
The Marauder's Map.
"What is it?"
"No, not what. Whose." Theo has refilled his empty glass and promptly downed its contents. "Harry fucking Potter's."
