When I opened my eyes the next morning, I freaked out since my daily alarm did not ring and I thought that I woke up late for work before I noticed where I was. I was confused momentarily at my surroundings. I forgot that I am a married woman now and that this was my new home and room from now on.
'I still can't believe it!' I thought as I sat up on my bed.
I heard a knock on my door.
"Madam Marinette? Are you awake yet?"
"Yes, I am. Please come in!"
Alya walked in with a big smile on her face.
"Good morning! I hope you slept well."
"Indeed I did."
"That's good to hear." She said. "You will be having breakfast in an hour with his highness. I will help you get ready."
"I see. Thank you!" I looked down.
"Please don't be afraid, his highness is a really kind person. He might seem intimidating but he really is a kind person deep inside." She told me.
Who am I to judge him? I don't quite know him yet or had a proper talk with him so I decided to believe in her. If I don't do anything to make him mad then hopefully it won't be as bad as I thought.
I ended up getting ready half an hour before breakfast so we decided to go on a house tour. She showed me the dining room, kitchen, guests' rooms, his highness's room, his office, sitting area and the garden. We came across a locked room which she seemed to pass without mentioning much about it so I decided to ask.
"What is that room?"
She blinked not expecting my question.
"W-Which room?"
I could tell that she was nervous. She probably was not allowed to speak of what was in there or she herself had no clue.
"The one we just passed by which seemed to have locks on it?!"
"My lady, It's his highness's private room. No one is allowed to go in even us workers. It's taken care of by his highness or his butler Nino. Please don't ask around about this room or you'd get in trouble."
I decided to leave it at that so that I don't get Alya in trouble.
I was guided back to the dining room. He was sitting there already waiting for me I assume as he looked as if he was impatient.
"I am sorry your highness, I was showing the lady around and lost track of time. Please forgive me!"
He looked at her before glancing at me and then said.
"It's alright, I should've expected this would be the case."
"Good morning your highness." I greeted.
"Good morning, please have a seat."
It was quiet. He barely spoke to me. I was almost halfway done when he finally decided to speak.
"How was your night? Did you rest well?"
"Yes, I rested well thank you for asking."
He nodded.
It was quite awkward for both of us.
"How was your night? Did you end up staying out for a long time?"
He looked surprised that I asked him something.
'Looks like I misunderstood him. He doesn't seem as evil as everyone claims he is.' I thought in relief.
"It was fine. Like usual."
"I see."
And once again awkwardness filled the area. We didn't really know much about each other to even share a conversation so I don't blame him for that. And for me, I haven't talked with people for quite some time now that I didn't know what I should ask or start to talk about.
"Oh, I wanted to tell you that there will be a party for the ladies being held in 3 days time. I won't force you to go but it would be good if you could attend it."
I flinched at the mention of parties. I was never a fan of parties especially as a former maid who had to serve many of the guests during the parties and such. Not to mention, it was never pleasant for me whenever Chloe was around.
"I-I will give it a thought."
He nodded.
"I will take my leave now as I have some places to check. Feel free to ask the servants or I if you need anything. And about the party, tell Nino or Alya what you decide on later and they'll inform me."
"Thank you your highness I'll do that!"
And so he left as I made my way out of the dining hall thinking of what to do about the party. Will she be there? Will I screw things up if I end up going and she'd be there too? I didn't know.
