Chapter 18
Riley’s POV
It was only Sunday. There wasn’t any school today, but that also meant that not many people would be back until later today. Adam took this to his advantage and woke me up bright and early so we could hang out all day.
At least we were supposed to be hanging out.
“Show off.” I grinned, lightly punching his arm. He had conjured up another green apple. We had a pile of fruits in front of us because he’s decided it would be fun to do.
“It’s not my fault I’m good at it.” Adam countered and threw his arm across my shoulder. “You want me to teach you?”
“Please teach me how to conjure fruit. That way I can at least protect myself if Mason comes after me.” I said sarcastically.
He kissed the top of my head, his facing going all serious. “You shouldn’t need to since you have me.”
I shot him a sad smile. “You won’t always be there. Especially when Liz comes back. She can’t see us together, remember?”
“Who says we can’t be friends when we’re around her?”
I scoffed. “I doubt neither of us can go a day without making out. Actually, I don’t think you can.”
“Is that so?” He smirked and moved his arm away. “I bet I can. Let’s start now. Let’s see if I can go a day without kissing you.”
I laughed and took a step backwards towards the school. “Okay, then I’ll see you tomorrow.” I turned my back towards him and continued down the path up until I was pushed against a tree, lips fusing with mine. I let out a shaky breath when he pulled away to look at me. His fingers played with the tip of my hair as he smiled.
“Maybe I can’t stay away from you.” He chuckled huskily and leaned his forehead against mine, whispering, “I never really could.”
I propped one foot up against the tree and tilted my head to the side. “Now that’s a bit of a dilemma, isn’t it?”
He grinned and slid his hand down to my hips. Then he brought it lower until they were right under my butt. Surprised by his actions, I jumped a little. But what surprised me even more was when a tree branch flew from above me and knocked Adam a good couple feet away from me.
I couldn’t help the chuckle that escaped my lips as I saw him on his back. “Are you okay?”
He slowly got to his feet, rubbing his sore chest. He brushed off a couple leaves. “I’ve been better.”
“Do you any idea what that was?” I wondered.
“You used to mess around with plants, see what you can make them do. You had most of it down before…” He trailed off, giving me a sad look.
I pushed myself off the tree and moved closer to him. “Before what?”
“You really don’t remember anything?”
I shook my head. “No, I don’t. Is there something I should remember that you’re not telling me?”
“Well, I’d feel better if you remembered everything.” He grinned, but I could see it didn’t reach his eyes. “So, I guess it’s clear to say that you’re still not ready for anything farther than kissing. That had to be the reason why you threw a branch at me.”
I blushed. “That was a total accident.”
“Oh, really?” He raised a brow.
“Yes, and I’ll prove it.” I said confidently.
