My Demon (The Original)

Chapter 2

(Hailey's p.o.v)
"Guys I think we have a problem," Sean suddenly said.

"We'll be over in a second," I finished up cleaning his wounds and extended a hand, he took it and stood up.

I handed him his cloak and we looked back at Sean.

He was hutched over, Luke Peterson.

"What do you mean?" Zander asked.

"You'd have to see for yourself," Sean said and waves us over.

We stood and walked over to Sean.

"What's the issue?" I asked.

Sean gestured to the demon.

However, the demon didn't look so much like a demon.

"Feel his heartbeat," Sean said.

I bent down and put a few fingers on his neck. I could feel a pulse.

"HE'S ALIVE!?" I shouted.

"WHAT!?" Zander yelled shocked. "H-how is that possible?"

"I don't know," I responded.

"We should take him to Jake," Sean proposed.

Zander and I looked at each other then back at Sean. We nodded.

But Zander still had a look of disappointment.

"Hey, we'll figure this out, Zander."

He gave me a weak smile and I smiled back.

Sean picked up Luke Peterson and we went off to Jake.

Now you might be asking, "Why go to Jake?"

Well, he knows a lot about these kinds of things. He studies magic. He'll most likely know what happened to him.

Most people in our town study a specific subject.

Some people are an exception though, like Sean. But that's because he doesn't want a fancy career path. He's happy with what he has now.

Where we are from, apprentices and people who study these subjects are called Achievers.

I'm a Medical Achiever, so I study medicine. But I mainly work with medical herbs, I do now a little bit in the other basic areas. I wouldn't say I'm a doctor, but what I do is similar.

Zander is a Demon Achiever, he studies demons. Especially ones like Luke Peterson. He usually is sent to keep demons in check, or one may say, tamed. Demons that are difficult and dangerous are to be killed. That was what was supposed to happen to Luke Peterson, but it would appear something went wrong.

Jake is a Magic Achiever, but I already said that. He specifically studies light magic, natural light magic, how we use it in our everyday lives, ways to use it and make it stronger, etc.

We have other friends, but I'll introduce them later.

Even though we are all studying different things, we do share one passion.

Music!

Sometimes we head down to the town square and play a few songs, and sometimes we play at restaurants, as entertainment of course. Sometimes we even get free food!

Anyway, back to the matter at hand.

We made our way out of the forest and back into town.

I looked over at Zander, he was staring down and fiddling with his cloak.

"So, Zander, what's on your mind? You still look bothered."

He looked away and was silent for a second.
