Your skin type depends on how little or how much oil is produced by your skin. Your skin care routine, diet, medication, stress, hormonal changes and environment can affect your skins oil production. Your skin type can change, so at some point in life your routine may have to change. Knowing your skin type will make it easier to identify what products you need.

There are six different skin types: oily, dry, sensitive, combination, normal and ageing or sun damaged.

Oily skin
Face looks shiny and has enlarged pores mostly around the T zone (forehead, nose, chin). Oily skin types will be more prone to blackheads and blemishes. Another clue to recognise this skin type is oily hair.

Dry skin
Skin will appear flaky and scaly. After cleansing it feels tight and dry. Dry skin types also experience red patches. Another indication can also be dry hands and feet.

Sensitive
Will often feel irritated and have red patches. Skin tends to be delicate and have fine pores.it may also have broken capillaries around cheeks and nose. Rashes and irritation can be lead by using the wrong products.

Combination
This is the most common skin type. It usually has medium sized pores and an oily T-zone (forehead, nose, chin). The rest of the skin may be noticeably dry or have an even and smooth texture. Blackheads are also often found around the nose.

Normal
This is the rearmost skin type. It has no noticeable problems. Usually has an even tone and texture. The skin has a healthy glow and pores appear small. Pimples are rare, mostly during teenage years, but still happen.

Ageing or sun damaged
Will often have fine lines and wrinkles or hyper pigmentation. Wrinkles usually start around the eyes, forehead and mouth. Due to loss of elasticity skin may appear loose.

Finding your skin type
1. First wash your face and pat dry gently.
2. Leave your face alone for a few hours without applying any makeup or products.
3. Using oil blotting paper, dab on one area of the face at a time.
4. Look back at the paper and see which areas (if any) leave oil resdue.

Different areas of the face like the nose and forehead are naturally a little oily
