Chapter Four.

Finger Foods.

Ever since Caleb came back from taking Arya for ice cream. He hasn't been the same, it was like he was hiding something.

"Caleb, what's wrong? Did she show up asking to see Arya?", asks Alex hoping that it wasn't his ex who had abandoned Arya when she was born just because she didn't want to be a mother.

"No, Alex, I am just thinking about what will I say when Arya asks about her mother. I mean she is bound to ask", he tells him.

"Dude, when the time comes I will be there with you. Don't forget she is my niece too", Alex answers hoping that Caleb would stop worrying about it.

"I saw Armelle today at the ice cream parlor. She met Arya and made her laugh", says Caleb hoping to get a reaction from him but with Alex, it would be impossible to get it.

"I am going to ask her for a date next week. And maybe just maybe it's a start for me to begin dating don't you think?".

"Yeah, sure".

This wasn't the reaction Caleb was hoping for from him but he knew that Alex looked at Armelle differently ever since she changed a recipe.

She puts her secret ingredients into the recipes I give her.

Alex didn't know how to tell his best friend not to date the girl he liked. He couldn't hurt him.

Caleb was more than his best friend, he was his brother who had helped him so many times that he could count.

Armelle, why did you have to come into my life knowing that you might leave at any given moment?

Alex remembers the time that they were marinating fillets, for the next opening of the restaurant which will be in a few hours. She added some spices that weren't there in the recipe.

"Armelle, I told you not to do this again. And here you are doing it again today", he says while trying to keep calm and not explode. She looked at me with her brown eyes and her pink lips that had no lipstick. Armelle has never worn make-up ever since the day he started training her.

"What do you mean, Chef? I am using what you wrote on the recipes you gave me to memorize". She answers innocently but Alex knows that what she did wasn't written in the recipe book he gave her.

"What do you mean, he asked you out? Does he even remember you?" asked Amelia.

"Caleb asked me out but I don't feel anything for him except friendship", she explained to her sister Amelia.

"You are your own person, Army. I won't tell you something that might give you a happy ending, the one you deserve" " she says.

"I know that but what if it doesn't end the way he wants it to. I mean after the training I'm leaving and you know this. I don't want to leave Caleb heartbroken because of me even if he is best friends to someone who bullied me". Armelle tries to compose herself.

"Well, why don't you just tell him and let him decide if he still wants to date you or not?", advises Amelia.

Armelle knew that her sister was right about what she said. When the day came for her to answer, she said; "When am done with the training I will be leaving and if we date, I don't want to leave someone behind."

"I know that but we could hang out as friends. Just friends", this made Armelle at ease with Caleb. And that's how they started hanging out but Alex thought they were dating.

Caleb began noticing how Alex had been acting around him and Armelle. He has been trying to avoid them which is impossible because he trains Armelle himself.

"AJ, could we talk?", asks Caleb motioning for Alex to go with him.

As they entered the office, Alex was about to ask what Caleb wanted to know.

"Are alright? I mean you have been distracted lately. Is everything okay?".

"Yes, everything is fine. Did get the invites to our ten-year reunion?", asks Alex hoping to change the topic.

"I did. Are you going?".

"Yes, I am."

Caleb knew that it was time that Alex saw Armelle and remembered her so that he could try and earn her forgiveness even though it was a long time.

Alex has started to catch feelings for Armelle yet he doesn't understand what is going on with him. All he knows is that he gets jealous whenever he sees them together.

Get yourself together, Alex. She is his girlfriend and he is more than your friend. He tries to convince himself every day.

Cooking with her has been something that he would do again and again if the opportunity arises. Even though Armelle is bad, really bad at organizing and making everything the way Alex likes it to be done.

Where there is fire ashes will remain.

"Hey, Armelle. Would go with me to our high school reunion?", asks Caleb who surprises her at the restaurant. He knew that Alex was watching and was trying to listen to them.

Caleb had already explained to Armelle that he remembered her. He then apologized to her.

"Yes, I would love to go with you", accepts Armelle.

What they didn't know was that Alex was clenching his fists. He was jealous that he didn't make the first move.

She looks so beautiful but those eyes, I know them from somewhere. He thought as he looked at her while she was trying out a new recipe as she always does.
