A/n update for 12/13/2020.Now we're all caught up!!

You did a few happy bounces in your seat as your mom placed a plate in front of you.

"YAAAAYYYY!!" you yelled.

Jaydah chuckled while your mom shushed you and told you to 'be quiet'.

"The kid's just happy. She really likes food." He said as she handed him his plate too.

He wasn't totally wrong. You really didn't care what you ate. You were really happy to be fed on a daily basis. And the fact you got food multiple times a day made you SUUUUUPEEERRRR happy. You felt so much better as you dug into the apples and peppers on your plate first. You froze for a moment as you realized you forgot to say thank you.

"What's wrong kiddo?" Jaydah asked.

"Thank you, mommy," You said urgently.

Jaydah looked confused for a moment before looking back at you.

"Hold on (Y/n). You've got cheese on your face," he said as he grabbed his napkin and held your chin to wipe your face.

You flinched a bit and threw your head sideways as you heard your mother scoff and storm out. You frowned.

"Hey, don't worry about her. Just eat your lunch and I'll be right back, okay?" He asked as he rubbed your cheek.

"Okay," You said.

He stood and kissed your head.

You quickly went back to eating feeling like something bad was about to happen and that this might be your last meal for a while.

"YOU NEVER SEE ME!!"

"WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT"

"IT'S ALWAYS HER. (Y/N), (Y/N), (Y/N)!"

"SHE'S YOUR DAUGHTER"

"SO! YOU SHOULDN'T LOVE HER MORE THAN ME!"

"I DON'T."

"YES, YOU DO. YOU PLAY WITH HER IN THE YARD, AND TAKE HER TO THE STORE WITH YOU, AND EVEN CLEAN UP AFTER EVERY MESS SHE MAKES"

"THAT'S WHAT A DAD IS SUPPOSED TO DO. AND IT'S NOT LIKE THE KID TEARS DOWN WALLS WHEREVER SHE GOES."

"You're NOT HER DAD!"

"WHAT'S THAT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?"

"IT'S NOT RIGHT FOR YOU TO BE LIKE THAT WITH HER"

"WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT"

*flashback ends*

Unfortunately, your gut was more correct than you would've liked it to be. But the memory was sweet at first. You remembered the energy you had. How good it felt to be able to run around in the sun or sleep with a full belly.

You nodded and stood. He gave you a sympathetic smile as he climbed the ladder and rummaged around for a minute. There was a triumphant 'Ah, here it is' and he came down with a dusty box. He set the box down and opened it.

"I think these are all okay for your age. Maybe a little tough to read but you seem like a smart kid. Here," he said as he stood and handed the box to you.

He noticed your hesitancy to accept the box.

"You don't have to return them either. Just take the ones you like and we can donate the rest. No one around here is going to read them anyway. I'd be glad if someone took them."

You reached forward gently and took the box.

"Easy, it's heavy," He said.

You held the box with both hands under it. It wasn't super heavy but you couldn't deny that it had some weight.

"Look at you! 14 and already stronger than I am. Go ahead and take these to your room. I'll bring you a water bottle then get out of your hair."

You looked up at him. Your eyes sparkled while your face asked 'really?'. He smiled and headed down the stairs to the kitchen.

"Hey, hun. Do you want some dinner?" Lily asked as she knocked on your open door.

You glanced up from your book to meet her eyes.

A/n Not a super interesting part. But hey we're caught up now. And I have the next 2 chapters for over my school break ready so I can just focus on getting ahead. Also, I know some of you may hate cliffhangers but I think I've gotten better at making them, and let me tell you: Next chapter is a NIGHTMARE!!! (laughs in foreshadowing and Authur all-knowing) Anyway, I think that cliffhangers may help bring in more interest and suspense to the story. This way suspense rises and I don't have to write 4 pages to deepen it.

Anyway, I hope you're having a wonderful day/evening/night, and I'll see you on Sunday.
